Chapter 559: Chapter 553: Bewitching Eye Secret Technique (Third Update)
"One hundred and twenty mid-grade Spirit Crystals!"
"We from Stars Tower bid one hundred and forty mid-grade Spirit Crystals!"
The bidding for the third set of Purple Spirit Jade had just begun, and Ye Zhen and Stars Tower Master Yan Cong, seemed as if they had taken gunpowder. In a few breaths, the price soared to one hundred and forty mid-grade Spirit Crystals.
One hundred and forty mid-grade Spirit Crystals should have been the highest price Stars Tower was willing to accept. At this price, purchasing Purple Spirit Jade would basically break even, without much profit, but also without significant loss. Moreover, this price was far higher than the cost of other purchasing channels for Stars Tower!
"I bid one hundred and fifty mid-grade Spirit Crystals!" Ye Zhen raised the bid.
This time, Yan Cong did not rush to outbid him but thought carefully before deciding to raise the bid.
Just as Yan Cong was about to speak, Deacon Ding shook his head at him again, "Tower Master, you can no longer raise the bid!"
In truth, Yan Cong understood this principle. However, from the start of the auction, Yan Zong had been bottling up anger with nowhere to vent.
Starting from receiving Ghost Spear Xian Yutong’s corpse and being ridiculed by Ye Zhen, he had nowhere to direct his anger. Now, he had been toyed with by Ye Zhen twice in a row, causing losses that could even affect this year’s performance of Stars Tower in the True Spirit Domain.
Logically, Yan Cong knew he should not raise the bid anymore. Raising it might fall into another trap of Ye Zhen.
But the resentment made it hard for Yan Cong to let go.
"I absolutely cannot let this brat get the Purple Spirit Jade so easily. At any cost, I have to make him bleed! This third set of Purple Spirit Jade should be his last chance!"
Having said this, without waiting for Deacon Ding and the others to persuade him further, Yan Cong raised the bid once more.
"Stars Tower bids one hundred and sixty mid-grade Spirit Crystals!"
"Good!"
Auctioneer You Fang’s voice of acclaim rang out, "Tower Master Yan bids one hundred and sixty mid-grade Spirit Crystals, is there anyone else who will bid higher, is there anyone else?"
"Congratulations, Tower Master Yan, you’ve won again. This set of Purple Spirit Jade is yours!" Ye Zhen’s cheerful voice sounded.
"Uh....."
In the number three VIP room, Deacon Ding, Steward Ma, and the others looked stunned. Yan Cong’s face turned pale, his chest heaving violently as an intense evil Qi involuntarily spilled out, and overwhelming spiritual power surged from his body like a tidal wave.
"Tower Master!"
Deacon Ding exclaimed, which snapped the furious Yan Cong out of it. He retracted his spiritual power, suppressed his rage, and the evil Qi dissipated; he knew this was not the place to make a scene.
"Tower Master, the loss has expanded to nearly one hundred and fifty mid-grade Spirit Crystals. If this happens one or two more times, we’ll risk losing two months of profits, and this year’s ranking in the Main Building..."
"No need to say more, I know what to do!"
Yan Cong waved his hand, halting Deacon Ding’s rambling. He took a deep breath and then let it out, gaining clarity. As someone who had seen great upheavals, he knew what choices to make at critical times.
He understood even more clearly that Ye Zhen, who had consigned a Demon Cloud Fruit today, was financially strong. If he really wanted to secure a set of Purple Spirit Jade, Yan Cong could not stop him. There was no need to risk a heavy loss. Of course, if there was a chance to vex Ye Zhen, he would take it.
As the third set of Purple Spirit Jade was once again sold at a high price to Stars Tower, the bidding for the fourth set promptly began.
Unlike the auction for the previous three sets of Purple Spirit Jade, the bidding for the fourth set was intense from the start. The increments in bids were small, only five to ten thousand at a time, unlike the direct additions of twenty thousand by Ye Zhen and Yan Cong during their bidding war.
But due to the number of bidders, it had its advantages. Ye Zhen even recognized the voice of Vice Sect Hierarch Yao Sen of the Sun and Moon Divine Sect joining the bidding. Oddly, Yan Cong from Stars Tower did not bid this time, as if truly abiding by some unspoken rule.
With Yan Cong not bidding, Ye Zhen was in no rush to bid, waiting for an appropriate price to join in.
"Ninety-five mid-grade Spirit Crystals for the first call. Is there anyone else who will bid?"
"Ninety-five mid-grade Spirit Crystals for the second call. Is there anyone else?"
Quickly, the price reached ninety-five mid-grade Spirit Crystals and stalled. According to Tian Guizhang’s introduction, the price at which their Sun and Moon Divine Sect purchased Purple Spirit Jade outside was about eighty mid-grade Spirit Crystals for two thousand pieces, although it was scarce and not something that could be bought just because one had the Spirit Crystals.
Therefore, the bid of ninety-five mid-grade Spirit Crystals was a suitable price that all major powers could accept.
At this point, the disparity between Stars Tower and the other major powers became evident.
When bidding, Stars Tower could recklessly bid more than one or two hundred thousand mid-grade Spirit Crystals. However, other powers, including the bidders from Sun and Moon Divine Sect, dared not do the same.
Because they were spending the sect’s funds, if they bid too crazily and exceeded the market price by too much, trouble would follow. In other words, they had less autonomy unless a critical order came from the sect.
Each branch of Stars Tower was self-sufficient, allowing them much freedom in bidding. This was the fundamental reason why Stars Tower could oppress the other major powers in the auction room.
"Ninety-five mid-grade Spirit Crystals for the third call. If there are no further bids, then...."
"I bid one hundred mid-grade Spirit Crystals!" Ye Zhen’s voice, silent for so long, finally rang out.
"Damn it!"
A curse erupted from within a VIP room as something nearly won was stirred up by Ye Zhen.
"I bid one hundred and ten mid-grade Spirit Crystals!"
Almost immediately after Ye Zhen’s bid, Stars Tower Master Yan Cong’s voice sounded again.
This bid was a relief to the one who had cursed just before, but most clear-sighted people understood that Stars Tower, having suffered a loss, had now come to disrupt Ye Zhen’s plans.
As long as someone is about to have bad luck, or is already experiencing it, a large number of people are always very eager and interested to see it unravel.
Therefore, when Yan Cong increased his bid once again, the entire auction hall fell into a hushed silence, everyone eagerly anticipating this bidding war and wanting to see who would end up being the unlucky one.
This time, Ye Zhen did not immediately raise his bid; instead, he seriously pondered his decision.
These were already the fourth set of Purple Spirit Jade, and the opportunities left for Ye Zhen were not many. It was foreseeable that the competition for the last set would be extremely fierce, and once Ye Zhen got involved, Yan Cong would surely make trouble without any hesitation. After all, it was apparent to everyone that Ye Zhen was very interested in the Purple Spirit Jade.
"I bid... one million three hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals!" After considering for a moment, Ye Zhen named his price.
A price that left Yan Cong feeling awkward and in a difficult position.
One million three hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals – if Stars Tower were to acquire it at this price, there would still be a very small profit. But this was Ye Zhen’s bid.
If he were to add another hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals to take it, he would be at a loss.
To raise the bid would continue to increase the losses, albeit not by much, but it would be a waste of money. Spent in such large amounts only to purchase goods at a loss – for Stars Tower that prided itself on high profits, that would simply be unforgivable.
And if he did not bid, this set of Purple Spirit Jade would likely fall into the hands of Ye Zhen; considering what he had deduced so far, Ye Zhen might be using this set for cultivation, and the price was much lower than the previous ones, which Yan Cong found intolerable!
Hearing Ye Zhen’s new bid, Yan Cong was indecisive. Should he raise the bid, or should he not?
"Is there anyone else who would like to bid? One million three hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals for the first time!"
"Is there anyone else who would like to bid? One million three hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals for the second time!"
Hearing the voice of the auctioneer Youx Fang, Yan Cong took a deep breath, straightened his body, about to place a bid, but before he could speak, Deacon Ding’s voice rang out.
"Tower Master, it’s not advisable!
We have many treasures to bid for this time, and a Demon Cloud Fruit has been added to the list on short notice. Our funds are extremely tight! Originally, we only planned to use two million four hundred thousand to two million eight hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals for the three sets of Purple Spirit Jade.
However, for the three sets, we’ve already expended five million four hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals, more than double the planned budget, Tower Master...."
Without waiting for Deacon Ding to finish speaking, Yan Cong weakly waved his hand to indicate that Deacon Ding should say no more, "Alright, I understand!" He then slumped back into his chair, closing his eyes in silence.
With Stars Tower’s Yan Cong not raising the bid, naturally, other powers did not wish to compete with Ye Zhen.
"One million three hundred thousand Mid-grade Spirit Crystals for the third time!"
Bang!
The auction hammer struck, signaling that the fourth set of Purple Spirit Jade had fallen into Ye Zhen’s lap.
Inside VIP room number 24, Ye Zhen clenched his fist in excitement.
"Tower Master Yan, he concedes, he concedes!"
Ye Zhen’s voice resounded in excitement.
In VIP room number three, Yan Cong, with his eyes closed and a face ashen, twitched the corners of his mouth, but his eyes remained firmly shut.
"Ye Zhen, you are the first person to have made Yan Cong accept defeat at an auction!" As Ye Zhen turned around, Fengh Qingyue gave him a thumbs up, her delicate face revealing a rare and pleasant-to-see smile.
Looking at Fengh Qingyue’s smile, Ye Zhen felt as if he were looking at a blooming peony, fragrant and pleasant, making it hard to shift his gaze away.
"It’s also luck, having some spirit crystals, and precisely pinpointing Stars Tower’s Achilles heel. Otherwise, getting the Purple Spirit Jade wouldn’t have been this easy."
While saying so, Ye Zhen’s gaze never left Fengh Qingyue. The intensity of his look caused her to become somewhat annoyed, and her beautiful eyes suddenly shone brightly, becoming as profound as the starry sky and seemingly spinning slowly, as if to trap the onlooker’s gaze.
Ye Zhen was admiring Fengh Qingyue like one would a beautiful flower and was caught off guard when his gaze became trapped.
Hum!
Almost at the instant Ye Zhen’s gaze was caught, the Sword Heart Enlightenment in the First Sword Vein within his body vibrated loudly, and the pillar of golden light formed by the Sword Heart Enlightenment in his Soul Sea shone brightly.
In just a moment, it cleared Ye Zhen’s mind, freeing him from the deep, ocean-like gaze of Fengh Qingyue.
"Eh?"
This time, not only was Fengh Qingyue surprised but so were others, including Tian Guizhang.
It wasn’t too extraordinary to not be entrapped by Fengh Qingyue’s Bewitching Eye Secret Technique; many martial artists could do that. However, to free oneself after falling into it was extremely rare.
At any rate, Tian Guizhang couldn’t do it.
For a moment, Tian Guizhang and Fengh Qingyue looked at Ye Zhen with extreme curiosity.
Just then, a Dao Talisman flew into VIP room number 24, and as he caught it, joy spread across Ye Zhen’s face.
It was the Jade Scroll for the bidding of the fourth set of Purple Spirit Jade that he’d just won. With this scroll, Ye Zhen could settle the account for the two thousand pieces of Purple Spirit Jade after the auction, provided he had sufficient Spirit Crystals from the consigned Demon Cloud Fruit; otherwise, the person entering the room would have been a steward here to press for payment.
