Plant Spirit Lifeforms were an extraordinarily rare kind of being. They were true living creatures, yet they could form contracts with cultivators and be wielded almost like weapons.
Unlike ordinary spiritual artifacts, they had a degree of self-awareness, which allowed them to react on their own when their master was in danger.
They were also remarkably hard to kill. A powerful Plant Spirit Lifeform could restrain enemies, shield its master, and keep fighting even after taking injuries that would destroy an ordinary creature.
Naturally, something that valuable was very difficult to obtain. Most Plant Spirit Lifeforms instinctively rejected cultivators who carried too much killing intent or an impure aura.
Only people with certain special physiques and naturally harmonious spiritual auras could approach them without provoking hostility right away. For that reason, cultivators who were able to tame a Plant Spirit Lifeform were rarely thought of as vicious or treacherous people.
’Did I really misjudge him?’
Li Yun frowned slightly. Mu Tianque had sworn an oath on his Martial Dao Heart and had handed over five thousand points before they even set off. Now he had shown that he could command a Plant Spirit Lifeform as well.
However Li Yun looked at it, Mu Tianque did not seem like someone who was secretly plotting against him. Perhaps his instincts had simply been too cautious this time.
"ROAR!"
The Glacier Titan suddenly let out a furious roar. Its earlier attacks had failed, and the two humans it saw as insignificant insects were still standing in front of it, so the enormous creature was clearly enraged. It opened its massive mouth, and a terrifying gale burst out with a boom.
The wind carried huge chunks of hail that each struck with astonishing force, and in an instant the whole frozen valley vanished under a violent torrent of wind, ice, and snow.
"Sword Control Art!"
Li Yun pushed his stray thoughts aside at once. Six thousand precious swords rose around him, Sword Qi burst from every blade, and the whole formation swept forward.
The hailstones shattered one after another with a string of loud bangs, and within moments the overwhelming storm directly in front of him had been reduced to clouds of frozen powder.
"Li Yun, aim for its eyes!" Mu Tianque called out. "They’re the weakest part of its body."
The dark emerald vine in his hand grew rapidly, stretching from several dozen feet to several hundred. Mu Tianque swung his arm, and the enormous vine tore through the frozen air and lashed straight at the Glacier Titan’s eyes.
"ROAR!"
The Glacier Titan sensed the danger immediately. Its eyes, each as large as a lighthouse, suddenly gave off an eerie blue glow. The cold light condensed, and two enormous pillars of ice shot out. They struck the vine with a bang and knocked it violently aside.
At the same moment, the Glacier Titan lifted one massive arm and brought its palm crashing down. The shadow of the hand alone covered a vast stretch of the valley, and it looked like an entire mountain range falling from the sky.
’I’d better dodge this.’
Li Yun moved at once, and Aurora Step carried him away from the spot where he had been standing. The Glacier Titan’s palm smashed into the frozen ground with a boom, and the whole ice layer caved in.
Cracks spread outward for hundreds of feet, and the point of impact sank dozens of feet into the earth.
Li Yun reappeared at a safe distance, looking a little more serious than before. The Glacier Titan was even stronger than he had first estimated. Its combat strength had already gone beyond that of an ordinary cultivator at the 4th level of Spirit Manifestation Realm and was close to the 5th level.
"Li Yun!" Mu Tianque shouted. "I’ll hold it down. When I give you an opening, go for its eyes."
He swung the Plant Spirit Lifeform again, and the dark emerald vine grew even longer. It coiled around one of the Glacier Titan’s enormous legs and quickly climbed upward.
More vines branched off from the original stem and wrapped around the creature’s waist, arms, shoulders, and neck. Within moments, the gigantic Glacier Titan was completely bound.
"ROAR!"
The beast struggled furiously, and the frozen valley shook with its movements. Surprisingly, Mu Tianque’s vines held, and for several breaths the mountain-sized creature could not move.
Restraining something of that size, however, clearly came at a great cost. Mu Tianque’s face quickly turned pale, and his whole body trembled. Veins bulged across his hands and forearms as he strained to keep his grip.
"Hurry!" he shouted. "I can only hold it for three breaths."
Li Yun’s eyes sharpened.
"Now."
He thrust his sword, and a streak of Sword Qi shot forward like lightning. It moved so fast that a low sonic boom trailed behind it.
The Glacier Titan sensed the danger and desperately tried to shut its eyes. Unfortunately for the beast, its enormous size worked against it. Even something as simple as closing its eyelids took longer than it would for an ordinary creature, and that brief delay was enough.
Li Yun’s Sword Qi pierced straight through one of the enormous eyes with a wet squelch, and ghostly blue blood sprayed out.
"ROAR!"
The Glacier Titan roared in agony, and its struggling became even more violent. Li Yun could sense the creature’s life force collapsing right away. The eye was more than a weak spot on the surface, because it was directly connected to something vital inside the creature.
The Glacier Titan understood that it was dying, and that only made it angrier. It refused to accept that two tiny humans had reduced it to this state.
With one last roar, it gathered all the strength it had left and swung its enormous palm at Li Yun. This dying blow was far faster than anything the creature had used earlier.
Li Yun’s gaze sharpened. He was already preparing to release Slaughter Sword Intent and cut straight through the palm when something wrapped around his waist. It was the Plant Spirit Lifeform. The vine yanked hard and dragged him out of the attack’s path.
The Glacier Titan’s palm slammed into the ground with a boom, and then the last of its strength finally left its body. The mountain-sized creature collapsed. The impact made the entire frozen valley shake, and the ice beneath it caved in by several hundred feet.
The Sovereign-class Frost Beast was dead.
