"So powerful," Li Yun muttered after finally steadying himself.
If not for the fact that his Golden Battle Body had evolved beyond the fourth stage during the Eternal Sky Trial, he would never have been able to catch that qi longsword with his bare hands. Had his Golden Battle Body remained at only the fourth stage, his hands would have been severely burned the moment he tried to stop it.
Now, however, he felt only a lingering burning sensation in his palms. That discomfort was already fading as the self healing ability of the Golden Battle Body began to take effect.
"Li Yun, do you wish to continue?" Zhang Lang asked when he saw Li Yun standing in silence, mistaking his stillness for injury.
"Yes, Senior Brother Zhang," Li Yun replied.
He suppressed the remaining heat in his palms and calmly prepared himself for the next attack.
"Since that is your decision, then so be it."
Seeing that Li Yun had chosen to persist, Zhang Lang said nothing further. He slowly exhaled a breath of turbid air and swiftly formed a series of hand seals with both hands.
"Giant Spirit Profound Palm!"
As his shout echoed out, a vast surge of qi erupted from Zhang Lang’s palms and condensed into an enormous qi palm suspended in the air. Within that massive palm, countless ancient and primitive inscriptions emerged, radiating waves of fierce and domineering aura, as though the strike existed solely to annihilate everything in its path.
Zhang Lang thrust his palm forward, and the gigantic qi palm swept through the air with terrifying force as it smashed toward Li Yun. Before the attack even reached him, the violent air currents it generated shattered the surrounding air upon impact. The ground below collapsed instantly, leaving behind a gigantic palm shaped crater.
Such a terrifying palm strike was powerful enough to kill a fifth level Xiantian Realm expert with a single blow.
"It seems I have no choice but to use my true strength."
The overwhelming aura pouring from the massive, roaring qi giant palm nearly suffocated Li Yun. A solemn light surfaced in his deep eyes as he began circulating his low grade profound rank Overlord Thunder Scripture at the seventh layer. At the same time, he activated his two top grade mortal rank cultivation arts, the Sun Refining Scripture and the Heavenflow Wind Scripture, both of which had reached the ninth layer.
As the three cultivation arts operated together, a vast and majestic surge of qi erupted from Li Yun’s body. The intensity of that release instantly shocked the senior brothers and sisters watching from high in the air, leaving many of them visibly stunned.
"This person is only at half step Xiantian Realm, yet his combat power is already this terrifying. If he breaks through to the Xiantian Realm, just how strong will he become? This is completely abnormal," someone exclaimed in disbelief.
"Even so, the gap between Li Yun and Senior Brother Zhang Lang is far too great to overcome," another voice responded. "Senior Brother Zhang Lang’s palm strike is so powerful that even a seventh level Xiantian Realm expert would struggle to withstand it. There is no way Li Yun can block this attack. Defeat is inevitable."
"Dominant Thunder Palm!"
Li Yun roared as he unleashed his palm technique. Instantly, a gigantic palm formed from blazing purple lightning manifested in the air. With a forceful push of his hands, Li Yun drove the thunderous palm upward to meet Zhang Lang’s descending qi giant palm.
Boom.
The two colossal palms collided violently, releasing an immense shockwave that swept across the Eternal Sky Secret Realm.
The senior brothers and sisters watching from above were all shaken by the collision of such terrifying level. They could clearly sense that either of those palm strikes alone would be more than enough to defeat them, or at the very least leave them gravely injured if they were careless.
On one side was a massive palm formed entirely from condensed qi pressing downward. On the other side was a gigantic palm made purely of raging lightning forcing its way upward. Neither of these attacks was something a fifth level Xiantian Realm disciple could endure head on, yet they were now colliding directly in a breathtaking clash of power.
"Damn! Senior Brother Zhang’s attack is far too powerful."
Li Yun could clearly feel the ground beneath his feet cracking inch by inch as the overwhelming force of Zhang Lang’s giant qi palm pressed him downward. The pressure weighed on him like a collapsing mountain, forcing his body closer to the fractured earth.
In this exchange, Li Yun was fortunate that Zhang Lang’s palm technique was only a low grade profound rank martial art, one that Zhang Lang had mastered to the advanced stage, the same level of mastery as Li Yun’s Dominant Thunder Palm. If the technique had been any stronger, the situation would have been far worse.
After suppressing the descending qi palm for several tense seconds, Li Yun began to feel his thunder palm weakening. The massive lightning palm trembled and shrank as its power steadily eroded.
"This is bad."
Sweat covered Li Yun’s face as he drew in a deep breath and forced himself to remain calm. He gritted his teeth and held on, but it did not take long for him to realize that his Dominant Thunder Palm was on the verge of collapse.
"Li Yun, give up now and you will not be injured," Zhang Lang said in a solemn voice.
Li Yun simply smiled in response. In the next instant, he released his hold on the Dominant Thunder Palm. The massive lightning palm shattered into countless fragments of crackling electricity before dispersing into the air.
With the lightning palm gone, Zhang Lang’s giant qi palm came crashing straight down toward Li Yun.
At that moment, Li Yun calmly drew his sword and executed the first move of the top grade mortal rank Sky Cleaving Sword Scripture, a technique he had already comprehended to the true meaning stage.
"Break the Guard!"
A sharp sword slash tore through the air and surged toward the descending qi palm.
Swish!
The result was instantaneous. The giant qi palm was split cleanly in two, scattering into fragments of dissipating qi before it could even reach Li Yun.
"Damn. What kind of sword attack was that? It split the giant qi palm in half."
"That strike was terrifying. I can still feel a chill from it."
"That was definitely a top grade mortal rank sword art, but how could a mortal rank technique be that powerful? This Li Yun is simply monstrous."
"I do not think I would survive that sword attack if I had to face Li Yun myself."
The senior brothers and sisters were completely shaken by Li Yun’s sword strike. The sheer decisiveness and power of that single slash stunned them to the core.
Of course, while the Sky Cleaving Sword Scripture at the true meaning stage was indeed stronger than the Dominant Thunder Palm at the advanced stage, Li Yun’s sword was only able to split the giant qi palm because his thunder palm had already worn down most of its power.
If the qi palm had been at full strength, the outcome of that clash might have been very different.
"Li Yun, the strength of your techniques is truly remarkable. Unfortunately, the difference between us is simply too great. You are no match for me."
Zhang Lang was forced several steps backward by Li Yun’s sword strike. His qi and blood churned slightly, and a trace of surprise flickered through his eyes despite himself.
That surprise, however, vanished almost instantly. Zhang Lang quickly regained his composure, lifted his gaze toward Li Yun, and spoke in a cold and deliberate tone.
"To show you proper respect and to secure a decisive victory, I will now use my full strength."
"The third move will be extremely powerful, so powerful that even I may not be able to fully control it. It could pose a serious threat to your life. I will ask you only once. Are you certain you still wish to receive my third move?"
