"Hm?"
The conversations around him immediately caught Li Yun’s attention. Huang Tianlin was about to fight someone named Yin Cangxiao, and from what Li Yun could gather, this Yin Cangxiao had already beaten Drunken Monk along with several other geniuses from their group.
Li Yun had spent the entire past month buried in cultivation inside the Puppetwood Corridor and had paid almost no attention to anything happening outside, so he naturally had no idea that Yin Cangxiao’s name had already stirred up the whole Genius Training Camp.
Many veteran members of the camp resented the cultivators who had entered through the Heaven’s Chosen Assembly, yet most of them still held themselves back because of those newcomers’ backgrounds.
A good number of the new arrivals came from the Five Supreme Factions, after all. Drunken Monk was the reincarnation of a powerful Buddhist expert from the Golden Lotus Buddhist Kingdom, while Huang Tianlin was the Ninth Prince of the Profound Sovereign Dynasty and one of Azure Emperor’s most favored sons, so very few people were willing to offend figures like that too seriously.
Yin Cangxiao was different. He had not only targeted the newcomers openly, he had done it with as much noise as possible.
Starting with the lowest-ranked among them, he had challenged them one after another, and his intentions could hardly have been clearer, since he wanted to sweep through every single genius who had come out of the Heaven’s Chosen Assembly.
"Since Huang Tianlin is fighting, I should go and take a look."
Li Yun’s interest was stirred. Back at the Heaven’s Chosen Assembly he had beaten Huang Tianlin, but the fight had been far from effortless, and he had always held the other man’s talent and combat ability in high regard.
This battle would be a good chance to see how much Huang Tianlin had improved since entering the Spirit Manifestation Realm.
He joined the crowd heading toward the gambling arena, and as he walked, he listened to the discussions around him and slowly pieced together everything that had happened during his month of seclusion.
"These people really refuse to let it go."
Li Yun frowned slightly. Among the geniuses from the Heaven’s Chosen Assembly, he was only on decent terms with a handful of people such as Drunken Monk, yet from the moment they all entered the Genius Training Camp together, the veteran members had lumped them into a single faction.
Wherever people gathered, factions and conflicts formed on their own. It was understandable that some veterans felt dissatisfied when Li Yun and the others were handed elite or core member status the moment they arrived, but targeting them again and again in order to humiliate them had gone well past reasonable.
A short while later, Li Yun reached the gambling arena, where Huang Tianlin and Yin Cangxiao already stood facing one another.
Huang Tianlin had reached the perfection stage of the 1st level of Spirit Manifestation Realm and needed only a small step to break through to the 2nd, while Yin Cangxiao had already reached the perfection stage of the 2nd level, so the gap between them was obvious to everyone watching.
"Huang Tianlin, I’m well aware that your status is extraordinary." Yin Cangxiao stood there arrogantly with his silver hair drifting behind him. "You’re the Ninth Prince of the Profound Sovereign Dynasty, and plenty of people are afraid to offend that title. I’m not one of them."
His lips curved into a mocking smile. "Drunken Monk lasted eight moves against me before you. I wonder how many you’ll manage. Can you even make it to ten exchanges?"
Huang Tianlin’s expression darkened at once.
"You’re far too arrogant."
As the Ninth Prince of the Profound Sovereign Dynasty, he was treated with considerable respect even by many experts at the 9th level of Spirit Manifestation Realm. When had anyone at the 2nd level ever dared to speak to him with that kind of contempt?
Golden energy surged out of Huang Tianlin’s body.
"Heavenly Sovereign Dragon Scripture."
Four five-clawed golden dragons appeared around him, circling through the air and releasing powerful roars that made him look like an ancient emperor standing beneath the heavens. Then his golden spear shot forward.
"Four Dragon Imperial Spear."
Brilliant golden light burst from the weapon, and within that radiance four dragon roars wove together as the spear drove toward Yin Cangxiao with overwhelming force. The pressure alone made the surrounding air tremble.
"Interesting."
Yin Cangxiao sneered and stepped forward instead of retreating.
"Unfortunately, that’s barely enough to warm me up."
His right palm suddenly turned silver, and a terrifying cold aura spread out from his body, covering the entire arena with a thin layer of frost.
"Break."
He slapped forward.
Bang!
The silver palm met Huang Tianlin’s golden spear light, and the spear radiance shattered violently. Yin Cangxiao laughed wildly as he surged ahead, his speed climbing sharply until he appeared beside Huang Tianlin almost instantly, and his silver palm swept toward his opponent’s chest.
Huang Tianlin snorted coldly.
"Golden Dragon War Body."
The four five-clawed golden dragons circling him roared together and rushed straight into his body.
Boom!
His aura climbed dramatically, and the pressure around him grew far heavier than before as his spear moved again.
"Four Dragons Suppress the Realm."
Four resounding dragon roars shook the arena as a dazzling golden spear light erupted like an exploding sun, and the sheer power packed into the attack made many spectators feel their hearts tighten.
Boom!
Yin Cangxiao’s expression changed, because he had clearly underestimated the strike. The golden spear light hit him head-on, blood sprayed from his mouth, and his body was thrown backward.
"What?"
"Huang Tianlin actually wounded Yin Cangxiao."
"Could he really win this?"
"His cultivation is only at the 1st level of Spirit Manifestation Realm, yet he can suppress someone at the perfection stage of the 2nd. That talent is terrifying."
Astonished discussion broke out across the crowd. Everyone knew Huang Tianlin had extraordinary potential, but very few had genuinely backed him in this fight, since the gap in cultivation was simply too wide. Even so, he had sent Yin Cangxiao flying.
