Dongfang Ming wore a set of white robes, and a sense of peacefulness and tranquillity could be detected from his bright starry eyes.
He could manipulate all-engulfing flames at will and with just one step, heaven and earth were transformed into a sea of flames under his command.
Shen Yin had never seen such a glorious man before. He was like the lord of flames, scorching the heavens and boiling the ocean, burning all that stood against him with an air of inevitability and invincibility. The eight evil Soul Formation Stage cultivators lasted no longer than the span of three breaths before they were burnt to ashes by a boundless sea of flames.
“Does the Qing Huan Sect have a vendetta again you? To think that they would mobilize half their forces just to kill you.” In contrast to his majestic and imposing exterior, the man’s voice was extremely gentle and soft.
“Yes.” A blush appeared on Shen Yin’s face, but her bright eyes continued to stare at the man in front of her, for no other reason aside from the fact that he was drop-dead gorgeous.
“What a coincidence, my mission is to annihilate the Qing Huan Sect. Would you like to come with me?” Dongfang Ming smiled.
“Yes!” Shen Yin nodded vigorously.
That was the first time they had ever spoken to one another. It was a simple and direct conversation, but little did they know the two of them had been bound together by the strings of fate.
Qing Huan Sect.
Amid a mountain of dead bodies and a sea of blood, Heavenly Dragon Maiden confessed her feelings.
“Dongfang Ming, be my Dao partner!”
“Why?!” Dongfang Ming was startled by her sudden confession.
“Because you’re handsome!”
Dongfang Ming: “...”
“Because... you saved me!”
Dongfang Ming shook his head. “I don’t ask for any favors from those I have saved. Besides, choosing a Dao partner is an extremely important decision that is not to be made lightly. I refuse to make a decision about someone unless I’ve been with them for at least a hundred years.”
“Fine... then I’ll stay by your side for a hundred years first!”
Dongfang Ming: “...”
Her song began to grow gentler and softer, resembling a light breeze caressing one’s cheek, or the light crooning from one’s lover to their better half.
Time flew by in a flash.
Shen Yin swept gracefully through a sea of dandelions, and An Lin and the others were greeted by the sight of Dongfang Ming’s gentle gaze.
As the sun set over the beach, Shen Yin walked barefooted, her porcelain-like toes sank into the golden sand as she lightly hummed a beautiful tune. Dongfang Ming picked up a pretty seashell which he gave to Shen Yin and also took advantage of the opportunity to grasp her hand in his. An Lin and the others could feel the warmth from Dongfang Ming’s palm and see the love and adoration in his eyes.
“Dongfang Ming, I’m planning on making an immortal weapon that contains both dragon and phoenix powers for our child to use!”
“We aren’t even Dao partners yet... Isn’t it too early to think about what weapon our child should be using?”
“Well, it’s gonna happen anyway since our agreement of a hundred years is already halfway completed...”
The two of them traveled through the Kingdom of the Nine States in search of tool refinement materials.
In order to make the perfect immortal weapon, the two of them even offered up their own bloodline powers to merge into the weapon.
On the day the Dragon Sparrow Sword was born into this world, projections of dragons and phoenixes flew through the air, and a series of spectacular natural phenomena appeared between heaven and earth.
“Dongfang Ming, cradle this sword like you’re cradling our child. The sword has both our bloodlines running through it after all.”
“Then are we still going to have children in the future?”
“Ha! You b*stard, you finally admitted that I’m your Dao partner!”
“... You idiot, if I didn’t regard you as my Dao partner, why would I spend eighty years by your side?”
Shen Yin: “...”
“In another twenty years, I’ll go to the Dragon Court and ask for your hand in marriage.”
“Then it’s settled, I’ll be waiting!”
The tone of the song suddenly changed, and an extremely fearful emotion suddenly became interwoven into her singing.
A series of images that she had been trying to repress began to surface.
A failed experimental project of the Purple Star realm, known as the Godfiend of Six Paths led a hundred thousand ghostly soldiers and waged war against the Dragon Court of the Eastern Sea.
The powerful ghostly soldiers ravaged the seas, transforming the East Sea into a cesspool of blood and suffering.
Shen Yin stared in despair as Dongfang Ming once again appeared in front of her to shield her with his own body.
He was still just as eye-catching and heartbreakingly handsome. He was like the sun, lighting up Shen Yin’s world just as when they had first met.
However, this time was different from the time when they first met.
Because this was the day where they would part forever.
The Godfiend of Six Paths had unimaginable power, and Dongfang Ming was only able to defeat it after completely expending all his power.
Dongfang Ming lay in Shen Yin’s lap. His aura was like a dying candle in the wind, but the expression on his face was just as gentle as ever.
“Shen Yin, I’ve devised a spell technique through which one can transfer their bloodline to another person. I can use it to transfer my power to you...”
“No... you have to live for my sake! Have you forgotten our promise? Two years, that’s all that’s left...”
The woman wailed in anguish.
The bloodline of the phoenix flowed into her body like a warm creek, warming her body and soul which were as cold as ice.
“Sorry, I won’t be able to keep my promise...”
Her song was imbued with infinite grief and sorrow, prompting onlookers to shed tears at his tragic passing.
An Lin and the others all began to weep at Dongfang Ming’s death. The grief they experienced was far too overwhelming. It was as if they were the protagonists of the story, and their lover had just passed away; there was no way they could resist the crushing grief and sorrow.
Xu Xiaolan clasped her hands over her heart in pain as tears welled up in her eyes. “Dongfang Ming... why did you leave me?”
An Lin wiped the tears away from his face, but the image of Dongfang Ming’s smile still lingered in his mind.
His domineering figure, his kindness, his constant efforts to protect the woman he loved, as well as the boundless love and affection that sparkled in his eyes. All these emotions culminated to a climax at his death, the weight of the resulting grief made An Lin want to follow after him into the next life.
“Waah, how could you die like this, my husband, there’s no purpose for me in this world other than to follow after you, woof!!” Da Bai was weeping uncontrollably with an expression of suicidal despair.
Only Xiao Chou was an exception as he stood on the spot with a firm expression.
He had constantly reminded himself that interspecies relationships would never end well. But what was this wave of overwhelming grief? And what was this liquid flowing down his face?
Shen Yin’s singing underwent another change as a certain belief supported her to carry on while she once again set foot upon the path to seeking Dao.
Her frail body seemed to have been filled by some sort of power as she continued onward, uprooting all the evil she encountered.
She worked many times harder than she did in the past, and she was also several times stronger, both physically and mentally.
“Dongfang Ming, I’ll definitely make good use of the power you have left in my body...”
The enraged yell of the Dragon King erupted within the Dragon Court. “Shen Yin, have you gone mad! How can the Dao of a phoenix be combined with the Dao of a dragon? They’re two vastly different things! If you try to combine them by force, it’d only spell your death!”
“There are countless Dao in this world, why can’t I create a new one?” Shen Yin smiled lightly, but her tone of voice was extremely firm. “His power will merge with mine so that he’ll always be with me...”
That day, the ocean surged as heaven and earth trembled.
In the sky above the East Sea, countless bolts of thunder exploded alongside scorching heavenly flames which threatened to boil the whole ocean. However, all of this disappeared amid a pained moan from a certain woman.
Shen Yin failed in her efforts to reach the Dao Integration Stage, and her frail body fell from the sky with a wistful smile on her face.
I failed after all, huh. Why am I so damn stubborn? Everything would’ve been fine if I had just materialized the Dao of the True Dragon...
Shen Yin was a little dejected, but there was not even a hint of remorse in her heart. The only thing she regretted was her failure at Dao Integration. She used a mystic technique to fortify her own consciousness in order to delay her inevitable death.
She came to the place where she and Dongfang Ming had first met; it was the high plains on the border between the Heavenly River State and the Stone Dragon State.
“What should I call it? I met you in the winter and it was also in winter when you left me, so how about I call it the Winter Dragon Tomb...”
Shen Yin built a tomb for herself and sealed herself within the Divine Spirit Pillar in wait for a fated person who could inherit her power.
It had to be said that fate worked in some amazing ways sometimes.
A beautiful woman came to the dragon tomb.
She had both the Dragon Bloodline as well as the Divine Phoenix Bloodline running through her veins. It was also her bloodline connection with Sword God that allowed her to obtain the approval of the Dragon Sparrow Sword...
Shen Yin felt that if she and Dongfang Ming were to have a child together, it would be someone like Xu Xiaolan. The few thousands of years during which she waited was not in vain as she finally met someone who both surprised her, but also made her wildest dreams come true.
The singing began to drift into the distance as Shen Yin flew toward the pillar of white light.
There were two streaks of tears running down her cheeks, and her gaze seemed to pierce through space and time, allowing her to once again catch sight of that dazzling, eye-catching figure of her dreams. Her body began to become transparent and her aura began to dissipate.
The Palace of Heaven began to rumble as cracks appeared on its walls.
The whole of the Winter Dragon Tomb also began to tremble as a series of cracks began to spread outwards like a cobweb.
An Lin and the others came to their senses and came to the realization that this was no longer a safe place to stay.
“Big Sister Shen Yin!” Xu Xiaolan yelled as she chased after Shen Yin, but she was prevented from advancing any further by An Lin.
“We have to get out of here!”
An Lin grabbed Xu Xiaolan by the arm and leaped onto his black brick as they flew toward the exit with Da Bai and Xiao Chou in tow.
Elder Fate of the Palace of Life sighed lightly as he walked toward the spatial gate in the tomb.
The Palace of Heaven gradually lost its luster, and the mystic realm which had stood for over eight thousand years began to crumble in this instant as if it was trying to bury all of Shen Yin’s past memories.
“How fortunate am I to be able to spend 98 years with you in this life...”
Shen Yin’s voice was like the voice of an angel, but it was drowned out by the spatial turbulence in the mystic realm as everything disappeared into oblivion.
