In the Dragon Group’s prison cell, Zhou Yuan lay on the ground, wounded all over. The cell was damp and stiflingly hot, which made his wounds all the more unbearable.
Just then, Lin Chen walked in with a grin on his face.
Seeing Lin Chen, Zhou Yuan’s expression turned exceedingly ugly—it was this bastard’s fault that he ended up like this.
Lin Chen laughed, "Old Zhou, I actually admire you quite a bit. To endure such severe torture and still hold on."
Zhou Yuan snorted coldly, lowered his head, and remained silent.
Lin Chen continued, "However, you are so loyal to the Zhou family, but the Zhou family might not feel the same about you."
Zhou Yuan raised his head and snorted coldly, "You don’t need to sow discord between me and the Zhou family. I have been with the Zhou family for over a decade; I know Mr. Zhou’s character well. You’re wasting your effort, I won’t say anything."
Lin Chen smiled faintly, "Do you really understand the Zhou family? Let’s make a bet, right now the ones who most want you dead are the Zhou family."
"Hahaha, Lin Chen, what joke are you making? I am loyally devoted to the Zhou family, I have accomplished so much for them. An outsider like you wouldn’t understand my relationship with them," Zhou Yuan retorted with a cold laugh.
Lin Chen nodded, "Since you are so loyal to your master, then let’s wait and see."
The cell door closed, and Lin Chen issued a few instructions to two guards before he left the cell.
Night deepened. The two guards who were watching the cell leaned back in their chairs dozing off when suddenly the outside door opened, and a middle-aged man in a colonel’s uniform walked in.
Seeing the newcomer, the guards quickly snapped to attention, "Instructor Li, you’ve come."
Li Kun nodded, "How is the prisoner?"
One guard replied, "Not bad, he has been sleeping since he came back."
"Hmm! Open the cell door," Li Kun nodded and ordered.
"But—" the guard hesitated.
Li Kun glared, "What? This is an order, open the cell door, I will interrogate him personally."
The guards, being soldiers and Li Kun being a superior officer, carried out the order and opened the prison cell gate reluctantly.
"You two go take a break. Now’s the time the prisoner is most exhausted, making it easier to breach his psychological defenses. I will interrogate him myself," Li Kun said.
"Hmm." The guards were already sleepy and could barely keep their eyes open; hearing Li Kun’s order, they left the cell and went off to nod off elsewhere.
Now, only Li Kun and Zhou Yuan were left in the cell. Actually, Zhou Yuan hadn’t been sleeping; he had been squinting at Li Kun all along.
Li Kun walked up to Zhou Yuan, kicked him with his foot, and said in a cold voice, "Get up, get up."
Zhou Yuan turned over and looked at Li Kun coldly, "I’m sleeping here, get lost."
Suddenly, Li Kun lowered his voice, "Mr. Zhou asked me to contact you."
Upon hearing Li Kun’s words, Zhou Yuan trembled slightly and sat up.
"What tricks are you playing now?" Zhou Yuan stared at Li Kun, his gaze filled with mistrust.
Li Kun looked around, saw that the two guards were dozing far away, and took out a small piece of paper.
Zhou Yuan took the paper, and his expression changed in an instant when he read it.
After swallowing the paper, Li Kun whispered, "I have a gun in my pocket. Take the gun, pretend to hold me hostage, then break out. Mr. Zhou’s men are waiting outside to meet you."
Zhou Yuan, looking tense, glanced at the two guards, nodded, and suddenly reached for Lu Kun’s pocket.
However, just as he was about to grab the gun, Li Kun suddenly clenched Zhou Yuan’s neck with his hand.
"Someone come quick, the prisoner is trying to escape!" Li Kun yelled while desperately strangling Zhou Yuan’s neck.
Given the distance of the two guards, by the time they arrived, Li Kun was confident he could have strangled Zhou Yuan to death.
It was only then that Zhou Yuan realized he had been tricked. He wanted to resist, but he was already heavily injured and weakened by severe punishment, lacking the strength to remove Li Kun’s hand.
Just at that moment, suddenly a figure appeared behind Li Kun, and before he could react, a slap struck him.
"Bang!" Li Kun was slapped to the ground, rolling several times.
Looking up, he saw Lin Chen appear behind him at some point.
"Advisor Lin, what are you doing? Are you helping the prisoner escape?" Li Kun coldly said.
Just then, the door of the cell opened and Elder Long, accompanied by several senior members of the Dragon Group, walked in.
Seeing Elder Long, Li Kun’s complexion drastically changed, and he thumped down to the ground.
"Li Kun, why did you do this?" Elder Long said with an ugly expression.
Li Kun was the son of one of Elder Long’s comrades, who had sacrificed his life to shield Elder Long, entrusting Li Kun to him with his dying breath.
Over the years, Elder Long had promoted him from an ordinary soldier to the military rank of a senior colonel, never expecting Li Kun to become a traitor to the country and the Dragon Group.
Li Kun looked at Elder Long, thumped down on his knees and said, "Grandfather Long, I was wrong. I should not have been seduced by beauty. I made a mistake that allowed the Zhou family to capture me, and they threatened me to leak information."
It turned out that at a party, Li Kun had drunkenly become involved with a beautiful girl, attracted by her charm.
When he woke up, Li Kun realized he had been filmed, and Zhou Yuanji threatened to post the video online unless he cooperated with the Zhou family.
Worried about ruining his future if the incident became public, Li Kun agreed and wandered further down the path of evil, becoming a criminal of the Dragon Group.
Elder Long sighed, "My boy, your mistake is too grave, Grandfather Long can’t save you."
With a wave of his hand, Li Kun was escorted away by two Dragon Group soldiers.
At this time, Zhou Yuan’s expression was extremely grim.
All along, he had devoted his life to the Zhou family, but he had never expected that the Zhou family would actually want to kill him.
At this moment, Lin Chen came up to Zhou Yuan and smiled, "Do you remember what I just said? Now, the ones who most want you dead are not us, but the Zhou family."
Zhou Yuan’s eyes blazed with rage, feeling betrayed at this moment.
He had always treated the Zhou family as his own kin, risking his life for them, only to be rewarded with the cruel reality that the Zhou family wanted him dead to silence him.
Lin Chen smiled faintly, "I understand how you feel, but the Zhou family’s actions are understandable— every man for himself and the Devil takes the hindmost! Now you have a chance. The mistakes you made before can be erased, and you might even become a member of the Dragon Group, but that requires you to show enough sincerity."
"Are you serious?" Zhou Yuan looked at Lin Chen, a hesitant look in his eyes.
Given the crimes he had committed, he should have been executed; yet now, Lin Chen not only offered him a way out but even a bright future.
"Of course, you can also continue to staunchly support the Zhou family with no issues, but you may end up disgraced and detested," Lin Chen said indifferently to Zhou Yuan.
Zhou Yuan clenched his teeth and said, "Fine, since the Zhou family is ruthless towards me, don’t blame me for being heartless towards them. I’ll confess everything!"
