Time flies swiftly.
As the sun sets in the west, the whole of Qingshan County quickly shifts from bustle to tranquility.
The common people hastily catch the last glimpse of the setting sun over the mountaintops, close their doors and windows, and snuff out their candles.
Night falls, and the entire city is soaked in darkness, like ink splattered on a scroll, quiet and mysterious.
In the dark, a small courtyard.
There's a cool mountain breeze, rustling the bamboo leaves.
At this moment, a lamp is lit.
Its flickering, bright yellow light seems so out of place in the tranquil night.
Not far away.
A small figure flashes out from the rooftop of a house, with a big bulging cloth bag strapped on its back.
Leaping lightly across the rooftops, covering seven or eight yards in one hop.
As light as a wisp of smoke.
In its leaps, the small figure glances back and spies a flicker of candlelight in the long night.
So dazzling!
But as the figure turns its head, under the faint moonlight, its true features are revealed.
Green face with sharp fangs, red eyebrows, a large head and a small body with slender limbs—frightening to anyone who sees it.
Its appearance suggests an evil ghost, obviously not human.
This creature, upon seeing the candlelight, seems attracted to it.
It leaps straight toward it.
And at this moment, inside the courtyard.
Amid the flickering candlelight,
A dark shadow has silently slipped in through the window.
In the wavering light, a fierce and ferocious head is reflected on the wall.
Leaning towards the lamp on the table, it inhales, and a wisp of smoke is drawn into the nostrils.
In the darkness, a sound of satisfied sighing is heard!
In the reflected light of the lamp, the head rolls up its black hair and reaches straight for the green lamp.
Just then, a wisp of green smoke deftly appears and also grabs the lamp.
The green smoke solidifies, revealing the red-eyebrowed evil ghost with the bulky cloth bag.
The two ghostly beings seem to recognize each other.
"This was my find first."
"I was here first."
"Don't think I'm afraid of you. Let's fight."
Meanwhile, in the bed next door covered with a green curtain.
Chen Yuan awakens from his meditation.
Through the curtain, he hears the two ghosts' quarrel.
The green lamp somehow lit itself.
It seems the lamp automatically extinguishes during the day and lights up at night.
The two ghosts now seem to have started fighting.
Their noise irritates him.
He's about to take action.
But at that moment, a sharp, thin voice comes from outside.
"Forget it, let's ask the City God to decide."
"Fine, let's go."
City God?
Hearing this term, Chen Yuan frowns, puzzled, and his raised hand drops.
At this moment, a ghost speaks:
"There's a person on this bed, probably the owner of this thing. Take him with us to question later."
With that said, the green curtain is lifted by a green hand,
Followed by the large green face that reaches in.
The ghost looks towards the bed, where a young man is sleeping under the covers.
The green-faced ghost breathes out towards Chen Yuan.
Then, it covers Chen Yuan with the large cloth bag it has on its back.
Chen Yuan is scooped inside the bag.
Inside the cloth bag, Chen Yuan opens his eyes.
Besides him, there are also two or three children.
His gaze burns fiercely, curious to see what the two little ghosts are up to.
In the south of Qingshan County, there's a small mountain with a City God Temple atop it, and the incense burns without end.
At this time, in the still of the night.
Two wisps of green smoke travel unimpeded all the way to the temple.
A stream slipped smoothly into the main hall, then turned on the spot.
The True Body was revealed.
It was indeed the two Ghosts.
And within the main hall were more than a dozen mud sculptures with colored bodies.
Eight Generals on either side, with some showing fierce eyes and dignity, while others holding divine swords.
And right in the center was a sculpture about a zhang tall, dressed in a golden robe, an official figure holding a Hu Ban.
The two Ghost creatures approached and directly addressed the central mud sculpture.
"City God."
"What is the noise about?" A few breaths later, a dignified voice echoed within the grand hall.
The two Ghost creatures vied to speak first.
Then, they brought out that lantern.
No one would yield.
And with the appearance of this lantern, all the sculptures within the inner hall seemed to awaken.
"What is this thing?"
"So comfortable, hehehe."
"Give it to me, give it to me."
"I want it, I want it."
A series of terrifying, manic voices rose.
Following that, within the candle-lit hall, numerous strange and bizarre ghost shadows appeared on the walls.
Subsequently, a multitude of ghost shadows like moths to a flame, rushed towards the lantern.
Emitting laughter like a Demon's melody.
At this moment, a white light shot out fiercely from the forehead of the City God sculpture.
A powerful aura shook apart the ghost shadows that were rushing from all around.
After that, a figure solidified and appeared.
Black-haired and beautiful-bearded, wearing an official robe, with a faint white halo emanating from his body, exuding a rich scent of incense.
Yet, utterly out of place among the surrounding ghastly ghost shadows.
Everywhere revealed a strangeness.
"City God" was now staring intently at the green lantern, displaying an intense greed.
He reached out and summoned the lantern into his hand.
Feeling as though his Yin God essence had solidified a fraction.
"Where did you get this thing from?"
Seeing the City God inquire, the green-faced ghost immediately produced a cloth bag from behind.
"Replying to your lordship, we do not know what this is, only that it's a Treasure. With the intention of offering it to your lordship, we captured its owner, and immediately started interrogating the owner for details."
As it spoke, the green-faced ghost was about to open the cloth bag.
Yet, in a flash of lightning, a hand suddenly stretched out from within the bag, pulling the ghost inside.
Following that, the bag stirred and expanded.
And then, a young man emerged from within!
And when that "City God" saw the young man, his face changed dramatically.
"It's you!"
After speaking, he glared viciously at the still confused Flying Head Demon.
He summoned it over, and with one slap, completely crushed the Flying Head Demon's head.
"Fool!"
As Chen Yuan saw this "City God" losing his cool, he revealed a set of white teeth and smiled.
So familiar indeed!
He had just made a breakthrough in Qi Cultivation when, outside of Qingshan County in a small town, he uncovered a vile and heretical temple.
At that time, it was this old ghost enchanting the people.
But back then, his own strength was not enough, and he let this old ghost escape.
Who would have thought that he would be hiding right under his nose?
Even came to impersonate the City God, gathering a host of ghosts.
It was also due to the City God Temple's incense being flourishing most of the time, indeed concealing the Ghost Energy very well.
"Unexpectedly, you old ghost fled here and even started posing as the City God!"
"How dare you!"
But then, the "City God" burst into a hearty laugh,
"So what if I did?"
"The former Mountain Patrol Military Officer is dead, Sky Patrol Department has no one left. You came to take the post, but even you can't defeat me."
He said, and his face began to emit Ghost Energy, his voice turning fierce and shadowy,
"Moreover, I have now refined many offerings of incense."
"You didn't see the foolish faces of the people of Qingshan County kneeling down to beg for my blessing. Hahaha."
As he reached the end of his speech, his voice turned harsh.
The entire City God Temple became shrouded in an eerie ghostly aura,
Those fierce ghost shadows attacked Chen Yuan.
