"I’ve actually already considered this problem."
As it was, Chen Yu was already incredibly busy.
If he really converted all of the Five Major Leagues, the four major professional sports leagues in the United States, or other sports fields into his company’s business in the future, the workload would be unimaginable.
"Let’s put the United States aside for a moment."
The United States was Chen Yu’s foundation, so it naturally had to be his priority.
The NBA in particular was the foundation of his foundation. His network there was extensive, and he was more familiar with the business.
In the future, the NBA would become Chen Yu’s personal domain, providing services to all 30 teams.
And he would definitely need to cover the NFL and other sports leagues as well.
So, just the United States side of things was already a significant amount of work.
"As for Europe, my plan is to select a few of the strongest teams from the Five Major Leagues and prioritize providing services to them."
"First off, my energy is limited. Just as you said, if I’m responsible for too many teams, I personally won’t have the stamina for it. Plus, my company was just established, so I need to train my own team. I’ll consider expanding the business later, after my team is properly trained."
’Choosing a few top-tier teams from each of the Five Major Leagues would add up to ten or twenty teams. I should be able to handle that.’
"Secondly, the services we provide aren’t cheap. Only the truly powerful teams will have a greater need for them."
This was another important reason.
If a team’s goal was just to avoid relegation, and its owner was poor, didn’t care about results, and was unwilling to invest, then they wouldn’t have this kind of demand.
Only these top-tier teams, in their fight for results, needed to maintain their competitiveness and strive to improve their strength in every aspect.
Paul Le Guen and Oulas exchanged a glance. They understood, but they also caught the subtext in Chen Yu’s words.
’The initial spots are limited, so you might not even get one.’
Of course, as the leader of Ligue 1, Lyon probably didn’t have to worry about that.
"Chen, I look forward to working with you." Oulas extended his hand with a broad smile.
’There’s no reason to disagree.’
No matter what price Chen Yu quoted, as long as it could guarantee the players’ health—or rather, if it detected a player’s physical problem even once—he would consider it worth it.
He held Chen Yu’s hand, not letting go right away, and sighed softly.
In truth, he would have preferred to poach Chen Yu and bring him directly to Lyon.
But that was clearly wishful thinking.
With business concluded, Chen Yu could now watch the match in peace.
Although Brazil had sent their B-team, while the United States Team consisted of their main World Cup players.
But the United States Team, despite scoring first, was still held to a draw by the Brazil Team in the final moments.
An assist from Ronaldinho, a powerful shot and goal by Adriano.
This was the first time Chen Yu had seen the kid play. He suddenly felt that Adriano bore a slight resemblance to Ronaldo—both were physically strong and fast, using those advantages to muscle past defenders.
Ronaldo was just like that. He had skill, but more often than not, he relied on his physical prowess to overwhelm opponents.
’Only 21 years old. His future is truly limitless.’
In the end, the two teams drew.
The next match was against Cameroon, and Cameroon was by no means a weak team.
In the previous round of the group stage, they had defeated the Brazil Team. And earlier today, in another match held in Saint Denis, Cameroon had also beaten Argentina.
Against an opponent of this caliber, the United States Team would most likely lose.
In that case, one could almost say the United States Team was already eliminated.
After the match, Oulas invited Chen Yu out for some entertainment and relaxation.
Chen Yu hesitated for a moment but didn’t refuse.
Fortunately, the "entertainment" he mentioned wasn’t the kind Chen Yu was thinking of. After all, he wasn’t young anymore; his heart probably couldn’t handle anything too wild.
It was past midnight when he returned to the hotel. He had had a few drinks but was still relatively sober. After waving goodbye to Oulas, who had brought him back, Chen Yu entered the hotel lobby.
Just as he was about to get on the elevator, someone suddenly called his name.
He turned his head and saw it was Adriano. He was sitting in the lounge area next to the lobby and stood up to greet Chen Yu the moment he walked in.
"Dr. Chen, are you still sober?" he asked, cautiously waving a hand in front of Chen Yu’s eyes.
"What do you think?"
Chen Yu pushed his hand away, walked straight to the nearby lounge area, and sat down. He then told the kid to get him a glass of lemonade.
He quickly returned with a glass of lemonade.
Chen Yu took a few sips, feeling his head clear a little, before asking what he wanted.
They were supposed to be leaving for Saint Etienne tomorrow for the final group stage match.
So for him to still be here this late, he was clearly waiting for him.
"Go on, what is it?"
Chen Yu casually scanned his body with the Eye of All-Seeing.
’No obvious injuries.’
’But people who seek me out are almost always dealing with an injury.’
Adriano nervously wrung his hands and then said, "Dr. Chen, I grew up in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. As you know, it’s very chaotic there. When I was ten, my father and I were walking down the street one day and got caught in a shootout between the police and drug traffickers."
"Unfortunately, my father was hit by a stray bullet. We rushed him to the hospital, and he was lucky enough to survive, but a piece of shrapnel was left in his head. The doctors said it would be very difficult and life-threatening to remove it."
"We were very poor at the time, so we chose to give up on the surgery. But that shrapnel left him with severe after-effects. He has to take medication constantly."
Chen Yu frowned.
Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, and many other Brazilian players had all come from the slums.
It was a miracle, but it was also a tragedy.
"And then? You didn’t get him the surgery later?" Chen Yu asked.
Adriano was successful and famous now; he should have the money.
Adriano rubbed his face in distress. "I’ve contacted many doctors for him, but they all told me there’s nothing they can do. The shrapnel has already fused with the surrounding tissue, and it’s located very deep. The difficulty and risk of removing it are too great."
"On top of that, because he’s been on medication for so long, his heart is under a heavy load, and he has a heart condition. He’s not even a candidate for surgery. Dr. Chen, his condition is getting more and more serious, and I’m really at my wit’s end."
"A doctor in Italy told me that the best option for my father’s condition would be a minimally invasive procedure, like entering through the nose to try and remove the fragment, to reduce the risks of a craniotomy. But the surgery is extremely difficult, and it’s been too long—the shrapnel is too tightly adhered to the surrounding tissue. He wasn’t very confident either."
"Dr. Chen, I know you’re especially skilled in minimally invasive surgery. I was wondering if you might have a solution, or perhaps, could you recommend a doctor in the United States? I know the medical standard there is very high."
After he finished speaking, he stared at Chen Yu without blinking, his eyes filled with hope.
Chen Yu was silent for a long time.
Adriano grew anxious and pleaded, "Dr. Chen, please, I’m begging you, help me. I love my father. I can’t lose him."
Chen Yu snapped back to reality.
"Adriano, don’t be so anxious," Chen Yu said, holding up a hand to calm him.
He had zoned out for a moment.
In fact, especially over the past year, Chen Yu had occasionally had thoughts about expanding his surgical field.
’Meaning, no longer limiting myself to orthopedics.’
’Because I have the Eye of All-Seeing. In the medical field, this ability is practically an ultimate, game-changing trump card.’
In any surgery, the biggest worry was always issues like bleeding.
The human body has too many blood vessels. No preoperative examination could possibly confirm the location of every single one and create a perfect surgical plan.
A slight slip or a trembling hand could sever a blood vessel.
Then comes the bleeding. If the source of the bleeding couldn’t be found, the patient’s life would be in immediate danger.
But Chen Yu, with his Eye of All-Seeing, was different. Forget finding the source of a bleed—Chen Yu could precisely avoid every single blood vessel as he made his incisions.
This was an advantage that no medical instrument, and no other elite doctor, could ever possess.
Therefore, Chen Yu could complete a surgery from any department with just a bit of specific training.
Even a craniotomy.
The high risk of a craniotomy comes from the limited field of vision, making it impossible to accurately avoid the dense network of nerves and blood vessels.
But with the help of the Eye of All-Seeing, Chen Yu could.
So, in a situation like Adriano’s father’s, Chen Yu could meticulously examine the shrapnel’s location and figure out the safest path for removal.
It was just like that pelvic fracture surgery he had performed before; no one else dared to do it minimally invasively, but Chen Yu could.
"Here’s what we’ll do, Adriano. It’s the off-season now. After the Confederations Cup is over, have your father make a trip to the United States. I’ll see what I can do for him and if I can solve his problem." It was clear that Adriano loved his father very much. Since he had come to him for help, Chen Yu was certainly willing to lend a hand if he could.
Adriano was overjoyed, excitedly grabbing Chen Yu’s hand and thanking him repeatedly.
"It’s nothing."
Chen Yu waved his hand, gave him his business card, and added as he was about to leave, "Adriano, you’re very talented. I see a shadow of Ronnie in you. You’re still young, so you have to work hard. I imagine it must have taken immense effort for you to come from the slums and become who you are today."
"And I’m sure your father’s encouragement played a huge part in that. His expectations for you must be very high, so you have to work even harder and not let him down."
Adriano nodded forcefully and thanked him again.
Chen Yu didn’t have time to chat any longer. He got on the elevator and went back to his room to rest.
The United States Team’s final match was also in Lyon.
They were facing the formidable Cameroon.
Judging by the current group stage points, the United States Team was as good as eliminated.
But going home with zero points would be an embarrassment for Alina.
Most importantly, Chen Yu had come to France.
That meant the United States Team could unleash its greatest weapon from last year’s World Cup: running.
In last year’s World Cup, the United States Team had relied on their youth and relentless running, almost advancing as the top team in their group.
And Chen Yu deserved a great deal of the credit for that.
During halftime, massages to help them recover their stamina were more useful than any tactical arrangement.
「June 24th.」
The final match of Group B.
The sun blazed high in the sky, the weather scorching. Even hiding under the sunshade, Chen Yu still found the heat wave unbearable.
Alina stood on the sidelines for a moment before scurrying back, grabbing a cold drink, and chugging it down in the heat.
"It’s too hot today!" Alina exclaimed.
Chen Yu nodded, his gaze constantly sweeping over the players on the field.
In the sweltering heat, a high-intensity match took a huge toll on the body. Symptoms like heatstroke, dehydration, and cramps could easily occur.
And for today’s match, Alina had been stressing to the United States Team beforehand that they had to run relentlessly.
Under these conditions, the intensity of this one half was no less taxing than an entire match.
Chen Yu was also quite worried that some players might not be able to take it.
Fortunately, it was already stoppage time in the first half, and the game was about to end.
’During halftime, if I help the players relax and rehydrate properly, it should be fine.’
It was just a shame they lacked the skill; the score was still 0-0.
However, their relentless running had also forced the Cameroonian players to run with them. Chen Yu could see clearly that the players from Cameroon were also massively drained and looked like they could barely run anymore.
’If they keep this up in the second half, they’ll break through the opponent’s goal sooner or later.’
The referee blew the whistle.
Halftime.
Chen Yu stood up, ready to get to work.
The players from both teams were also walking off the field, breathing heavily.
Just then, a series of gasps came from the stands.
