"His ankle has always been a problem. I always thought it was because he charged too hard, or maybe he put too much force into his shots."
"But that’s just how he’s always played, and he’s not willing to change. The result is that his ankle is caught in a cycle of injury, treatment, recovery, and re-injury."
"If that were all, it would be one thing, but the most important thing is the pain. He’s in pain all the time. Every step hurts. His cartilage is severely worn down. I remember he joked with us once that it felt like there was a piece of sandpaper stuck in his ankle, constantly grinding down his bones. He even asked if it was making him shorter."
"And to make matters worse, we’re athletes. Ordinary painkillers don’t work for him anymore, and he can’t take the strong ones, especially during games. Every match is torture for him."
"He’s actually pretty optimistic about it, often saying it’s nothing he can’t endure, but I can feel his pain, and it’s getting worse and worse."
Redondo looked at Chen Yu. "Chen, can you heal him?"
Chen Yu didn’t answer right away.
’In a situation like this, with no external injuries, it’s almost always caused by long-term overexertion without enough rest.’
’The best option would be to rest.’
’But for these professional players, when do they ever have that much time to rest?’
Just then, Ronaldo, who had been listening from the side, seemed to have a thought and said, "If we’re talking about that, Robert’s in the same situation."
Seeing Chen Yu look over, Ronaldo said with a touch of sadness, "Robert has had a really hard time these past two years, too. It’s the pain. His leg is much worse than Batty’s. Did you know, after every practice, he has a hard time even getting into his car?"
"He told me that after driving home, he can’t even straighten his leg. He has to sit in the car for a while just to recover before he can get out and go inside. Honestly, the fact that he can still play on the field is a miracle."
Chen Yu looked at the two of them, feeling a bit helpless.
’Can’t these guys take pity on a soccer novice like me and use their full names when they talk about people?’
’I have no idea who this Robert they’re talking about is.’
"Oh, right, I remember Claudio got injured last November, tore his cruciate ligament. Fernando, have you asked him how his recovery is going? If it’s not going well, he could come see Chen too," Ronaldo suddenly remembered someone else and asked Redondo, who was next to him.
Redondo said, "He had surgery, and his recovery is going pretty well. He’s a bit younger, after all."
Chen Yu’s face was a mask of helplessness.
’Can someone please tell me who this Claudio is?’
Clearing his throat to interrupt them, Chen Yu first looked at Redondo. "The cartilage can be treated. If he’s willing, have him come."
’There’s probably still cartilage left, it’s just badly worn.’
’In this kind of situation, I can perform a minimally invasive surgery to smooth out the rough cartilage, then use the system’s healing effects to repair it. It shouldn’t be a big problem.’
"As for that Robert you mentioned, I’ll have to see him before I can determine if he can be treated."
From Ronaldo’s description, this Robert’s condition was much more severe than Batty’s.
Telling the two to get some rest, Chen Yu said no more and turned to leave.
After finishing grinding for experience on Carl, he had just filled his XP bar. He got lucky and received a Silver Level Recovery Effect. Satisfied, Chen Yu didn’t go back to his rental apartment and just crashed at the hospital for the night.
The next day, Chen Yu received a document.
When he saw the sender, Chen Yu finally remembered the matter.
He had previously sent that drug called Zinc and Magnesium Power to the University of California, Los Angeles for testing. This must be the test results.
Chen Yu opened the mail.
The lab director, Don Catherine, had personally replied. In the document, she stated that the drug, Zinc and Magnesium Power, did indeed contain an unknown substance with a steroid structure. They had then used gas chromatography and mass spectrometry to analyze it and map out the substance’s chemical structural formula.
It could be confirmed that this was a brand new, artificially designed novel steroid.
She had even named it, calling it Tetrahydrogestrinone.
Chen Yu had expected this result.
’Just from its effects, I could guess it had to contain steroids.’
’The person who invented this is a genius, though, to have actually created a completely new steroid.’
And Chen Yu felt that quite a few people in the world of sports were probably using this stuff right now.
The question now was, what should Chen Yu do?
Should he notify USADA, the United States Anti-Doping Agency?
In the document, Catherine had also asked Chen Yu where he got it and what he wanted to do about it.
Chen Yu had a headache.
’This is a real can of worms. Who knows how many athletes are involved.’
’It would be easy for me to expose it, but what happens after? They’ll deny it and might even sue me for defamation. Getting tangled up in lawsuits would be a huge hassle.’
After thinking it over, Chen Yu decided to put it on the back burner for now. He would think about it again later.
When you’re busy, time flies.
In the blink of an eye, it was the end of March.
On this day, Chen Yu woke up bright and early.
Lexi carefully straightened Chen Yu’s tie, then looked in the mirror and smiled. "Handsome. Especially your nose. The more I look at it, the more it looks like Tom Cruise’s."
Chen Yu took the opportunity to wrap his arm around Lexi’s slender waist. "What, is it only my nose?"
Lexi let out a soft huff. "Isn’t the nose enough?"
With that, she tilted her head up and kissed him.
As the feeling took hold, Chen Yu’s hand began to explore downwards of its own accord.
Lexi quickly grabbed his hand, saying in exasperation, "This is a two-thousand US dollar dress! If you wrinkle it, I’ll never forgive you."
Saying that, she wiggled a bit in front of the mirror and sighed, "I’ve never worn such an expensive dress before. I never imagined I’d be able to wear something like this one day."
Chen Yu hugged her and said with a laugh, "Forget two thousand US dollars. In the future, I’ll buy you twenty-thousand-dollar dresses too."
With his current income, what was a twenty-thousand-dollar dress?
"Forget it. If we have that kind of money, we should save it for the mortgage," Lexi said, waving her hand. She couldn’t help but look around again, saying in disbelief, "I really can’t believe I’m living in a house like this."
A total price of 5.8 million US dollars, located in Phoenix’s famous Paradise Valley area. Although it wasn’t one of the most luxurious mountain villas, it was still a mansion neighboring all sorts of wealthy Phoenix residents.
Chen Yu hugged Lexi from behind and said with a smile, "Don’t worry. Once my clinic becomes world-famous, we’ll move up into the mountains."
Today was the day Chen Yu’s clinic was officially opening.
The two of them set off by car. With no traffic, they arrived at their destination a little over half an hour later.
After parking the car, they happened to run into J Kidd and his family.
J Kidd was holding his son, with a sunglasses-wearing Joumana following behind.
Joumana had met Lexi during the All-Star Game, and she greeted her from a distance.
The women chatted among themselves, while Chen Yu walked inside with J Kidd.
His son was sturdy and cute, constantly sucking on his fingers.
"This place is nice. Feels like a resort." Through the outer fence, they could see the buildings inside.
The outer buildings had all been completely renovated, their exterior walls painted a uniform off-white. Shaded by green trees, it really did look like a resort.
As they were speaking, they arrived at the main entrance.
J Kidd stopped and looked up. "The Chen-Hill Memorial Clinic."
Chen Yu had once considered changing the name, but he had decided against it.
’It’s a joint operation, so using both of our last names is appropriate.’
’Besides, a lot of hospitals in the United States are named this way.’
"Let’s go."
They took a shuttle to the medical center at the core of the complex.
A lot of people came today.
From the Suns, all the players were there, as well as Skiles and Nelson. Brian’s whole family also came.
Chen Yu had wanted to invite some friends, but not many of them were in Phoenix.
His mother was far away in Chicago and couldn’t make it.
Then there was Hill’s side. His family was even more impressive. His father was a sports star and the vice president of Major League Baseball, and his mother was a famous lawyer and a legal consultant for the Pentagon. Because of them, quite a few political figures had come today, such as the mayor of Phoenix and some officials from the state of Arizona.
But today’s star was still Chen Yu.
In the United States, doctors are respected, and a top-tier doctor even more so.
Everyone gets sick at some point, after all.
After a relatively simple ceremony, a buffet was prepared in the clinic’s recreation center.
With Lexi on his arm, Chen Yu went around and chatted with the guests one by one.
After the exhausting ordeal was finally over, the two of them immediately ran to a corner to hide and relax.
"I’m exhausted. I feel like my face muscles are stiff," Lexi said, rubbing her cheeks.
Chen Yu downed a gulp of his drink. ’Tell me about it,’ he thought.
Just as he was about to get something to eat, someone called his name from behind. He turned his head and saw Jennifer.
With the clinic completed, Carl had also been transferred here.
Chen Yu had given Jennifer a discount. After all, he felt a bit bad about constantly grinding for experience on Carl.
Today was the opening ceremony, so Chen Yu had invited her as well.
She was wearing a tasteful light blue dress that perfectly showed off her fine figure. She had also had her hair done and looked bright and lovely.
A hint of vigilance instantly appeared in Lexi’s eyes as she proactively stepped forward to greet her.
"Huh? Are you with Johnson & Johnson Company?" After chatting for a few moments, Lexi was taken aback and became even more guarded.
Working at a hospital, she knew all too well what these pharmaceutical reps were capable of doing to hit their sales targets.
Chen Yu looked at Jennifer with surprise.
He only knew that Jennifer was in sales, but he had never asked which company. He never would have guessed it was Johnson & Johnson.
This was a huge company. In the medical device sector, Johnson & Johnson was a top company, ranking in the top three in the United States and even the top three worldwide.
A thought suddenly struck Chen Yu.
"Jennifer, do you know anyone in your corporate R&D department?" Chen Yu had previously had an idea to get a cold chamber to quickly relieve players’ sports injuries.
’It’s a hassle to always be using ice baths.’
’If there was a machine that could rapidly release cold, it would save a lot of trouble.’
"Yes, I do. Why?" Jennifer asked back.
They had a branch right here in Phoenix.
The climate in Phoenix is dry, so many companies in the United States involved in precision manufacturing have branches here.
The Johnson & Johnson Medical division had a research institute here.
