"General Ling, are you unwilling to join the military for some experience?" Han Li was slightly surprised. With Ling Feng’s talent in command, it would be a waste not to join the military forces.
Ling Feng forced a bitter smile, using the life-and-death duel he had with Yaan Jinghong as a shield.
"I have an agreement with Yaan Jinghong for a duel, with our lives at stake. At this moment, I am unsure if I can even preserve my life, so how could I have the mind to consider other matters?"
Ling Feng sighed softly, his voice full of helplessness and the weight of experience.
Of course, this sigh wasn’t simply because of Yaan Jinghong, but because he bore the destiny of the Heavenly Dao Clan, destined to face strong opponents like the Sky Patrol Clan.
His destined enemy was a Divine!
If anyone else were in his shoes, they would probably feel immense pressure as well.
"After all, he’s young, inevitably hot-blooded."
Han Li gently patted Ling Feng’s shoulder, sighing lightly, "What a pity. I hope General Ling can emerge victorious."
"I’ll take your kind words, Grand Commander." Ling Feng cupped his fists in salute to Han Li.
"Well then, since Military Counsellor Jia is no longer in serious condition, I should depart. There are still many matters in the fortress that need handling." Han Li sighed, even though his position was high, the burdens and pressures he bore were immense.
"Grand Commander, there’s still time before the duel date. I would be happy to stay at the fortress and help alleviate your burdens."
Ling Feng quickly stepped forward and said.
"Oh?" Han Li’s eyes sparkled slightly, and a slight smile appeared on his face.
"Of course." Ling Feng nodded and said, "Just moments ago, I heard this officer repeatedly mention ’Sitting and Forgetting.’ I think perhaps the Demon Clan’s actions might be related to these two words."
"Right, right, right."
Cao Meng quickly said, "I heard it too. He was the Deputy General Yang Yin, who went with General Zhen Yuan to gather intelligence. I believe this is the intelligence General Zhen Yuan and his team discovered but were unable to return in time to deliver because they were detected by the Demon Clan."
"Sitting and Forgetting?" Han Li furrowed his brows, pondering over the mystery these two words might hold.
"Could it also mean last night? Done? Left wrist? Sit..."
Cao Meng murmured, suddenly raising his eyebrow and exclaiming, "Could there be intelligence on his left wrist?"
Saying this, Cao Meng quickly grabbed Yang Yin’s left arm, but apart from some gruesome scars, there were no other clues.
"Could it be a place name?" Ling Feng suddenly spoke, "Have any of the generals heard of a Sitting and Forgetting Peak, or Sitting and Forgetting River, or Sitting and Forgetting Valley around Luohai City?"
"Sitting and Forgetting Valley?"
Cao Meng blurted out, "Actually, about two hundred li north of Luohai City, there really is a Sitting and Forgetting Valley, but it’s just a barren valley, a wasteland."
"Is that the only Sitting and Forgetting Valley around Luohai City?" Ling Feng asked sternly.
"Correct." Jia Wenhe pondered slightly, looking at Ling Feng strangely, "General Ling, you mentioned Luohai City several times. Could there be some mystery hidden there?"
"It’s just a speculation." Ling Feng touched his nose, "I heard the Demon Clan headed towards Wangluo River City after breaking through the fortress, right?"
"That’s because the closest city after breaking through is Luohai City."
Cao Meng laughed heartily, "General Ling, you’re overthinking it. I’ve been to that Sitting and Forgetting Valley over eighty times, and there’s nothing valuable there that would warrant such a big fuss from the Demon Clan."
"Perhaps." Ling Feng shrugged, looking at Han Li, "What does the Grand Commander think?"
"We can’t overlook any clues." Han Li’s eyes narrowed slightly like a hawk’s, "Since there’s a Sitting and Forgetting Valley, it’s necessary to investigate."
"Grand Commander, I request to lead the expedition to investigate Sitting and Forgetting Valley!"
Ling Feng promptly volunteered.
"Alright, since it’s General Ling who found this clue, you will investigate. Cao Meng, gather eight elite subordinates to accompany General Ling. All command and dispatch for this mission will follow General Ling’s arrangements!"
"Understood!" Ling Feng and Cao Meng responded in unison.
"Additionally, if nothing is found, so be it. But if anything unusual is discovered, report promptly and do not act without permission!" Han Li solemnly instructed.
"Yes!"
"Good, then I’ll leave this matter to you."
Han Li gave Ling Feng a deep look, exchanged a few words with Jia Wenhe, and then left with several veteran generals.
Outside the medical camp’s tent, a general behind Han Li finally asked, "Grand Commander, do you really think there’s something unusual about that Sitting and Forgetting Valley?"
"Indeed, during our Northwest Army’s drills and exercises, we often head to the Sitting and Forgetting Valley area. There’s absolutely nothing hidden there worth the Demon Clan’s trouble."
"Of course I know that, but since Ling Feng is so eager to help, let him take a trip to the Sitting and Forgetting Valley. We can’t let him feel unappreciated."
Han Li shook his head, a hint of resolve in his eyes, "Regardless of their motives, if the Demon Clan dares to invade our Sky-reaching Fortress, they’ll never return!"
"Haha, the Grand Commander indeed cherishes talent. General Ling is undoubtedly worth the Grand Commander’s care!"
The surrounding veteran generals finally understood Han Li’s "good intentions."
"Alright, now is not the time to discuss these matters. The Demon Clan keeps harassing us outside the fortress, trying to wear us down and stop us from tracking the invading demons." Han Li’s brows furrowed deeply as he spoke in a grave tone, "The Demon Clan has strategists as well!"
"How should we counter this? We can’t just hide forever, can we?"
"Hang the heads of those demons we decapitated last night on the city walls. Let them know that Sky-reaching Fortress is not easily breached!"
"Yes!"
Meanwhile, Cao Meng and Ling Feng received Han Li’s order and immediately gathered eight subordinates to prepare for investigating Sitting and Forgetting Valley.
Unfortunately, Cao Meng only gathered eight subordinates who barely reached the Origin Transformation Realm, clearly not expecting to find any clues at Sitting and Forgetting Valley.
"General Cao, do you call these elites?"
Ling Feng frowned at the subordinates Cao Meng gathered.
"General Ling, isn’t this sufficient? The fortress is under pressure, so our main forces should remain here to guard, don’t you think? Haha..."
Cao Meng laughed awkwardly.
Ling Feng took a deep breath, his expression serious, "What do you mean by ’sufficient’?"
"General Ling, I admire your medical skills and military strategy, but this time, you should heed my advice. There’s nothing unusual about the Sitting and Forgetting Valley, I’m too familiar with the area!" Cao Meng explained somewhat helplessly.
"General Cao, if you’re truly unwilling to waste time accompanying me to Sitting and Forgetting Valley, you’re free to inform the Grand Commander. I can go alone."
Ling Feng didn’t bother to explain further and used Han Li to pressure Cao Meng. Since he was leading, he wanted helpers rather than hindrances.
"Alright, alright, you’re in command of this mission, and I’ll follow your orders!"
Cao Meng sighed and had to gather eight elites from the Divine Origin Realm, though his attitude was noticeably colder than before.
Ling Feng noticed but said nothing more. When they encountered the Demon Clan in the Sitting and Forgetting Valley, Cao Meng would understand everything.
