Chapter 445: Chapter 445: The Heights of Ling Feng! (4 more)
Without a doubt, Su Qingxuan was a very beautiful woman, and because of her identity as a mentor, she had always given Ling Feng a feeling of being exceptionally pure and flawless.
Now, Ling Feng suddenly realized that Su Qingxuan could also exhibit such a girlish sulkiness, which surprised him so much that he was stunned on the spot.
Su Qingxuan also realized she had lost her composure, so she quickly let go of Ling Feng's arm, her face slightly hot as she gritted her teeth and said, "Actually... actually, I want you to do me a favor."
"Uh..." Ling Feng finally came to his senses, smiled awkwardly, and said indifferently, "Master Su, if there's anything you need, just say it."
"Really?" A flicker of excitement appeared in Su Qingxuan's eyes, "Then I'll take it that you've agreed! Come with me!"
With that, Su Qingxuan led Ling Feng into the courtyard, where there was a very quiet attic. Behind the attic, there was a stone chamber, which Ling Feng was very familiar with—it was obviously an Alchemy Room.
Compared to others, Su Qingxuan's Alchemy Room was quite simple, without many ancient books or a dazzling array of various materials, but it was very clean. Some fire-resistant plants were used as decorations, and the overall style was much more refined and elegant than Yan Cangtian's room, which had a more masculine grandeur.
Su Qingxuan quickly walked to the desk in the outer hall of the Alchemy Room and spread out a scroll on the desk before looking up at Ling Feng and gritting her teeth, "Chief Ling, come over and take a look."
"Oh..." Ling Feng sniffed, walked to the other side of the desk, took the scroll, and began to read it carefully.
It turned out to be an Elixir Recipe for a Fifth-rank top-grade elixir. Although the rank was not very high, it was indeed quite rare—at least Ling Feng had never seen it before.
Moreover, the paper of the scroll had begun to yellow slightly, and there were several holes in it, so it wasn't complete.
In the blank portion of the scroll, there was some delicate handwriting, obviously left by Su Qingxuan, detailing her speculations and additions, but towards the end, it all turned into question marks.
As Ling Feng read on, a slight smile appeared on the corner of his mouth.
It turned out that Su Qingxuan had been failing for over a month and in the last few days had tried four times in a row, ruining all four sets of ingredients, which explained her frustration since she had only prepared five sets to begin with.
Seeing the smile on Ling Feng's lips, Su Qingxuan couldn't help but snort lightly, her eyebrows slightly furrowed, "Hey, just because I've failed a few times, you don't need to mock me!"
As she spoke, Su Qingxuan snatched the scroll away, somewhat angrily saying, "Forget it, I don't need your help anymore!"
Ling Feng was taken aback, thinking that women were indeed creatures beyond understanding, whether they were students or mentors!
With a bitter smile, Ling Feng quickly explained, "Master Su, I didn't mean to mock you. I just think your dedication to researching the Elixir Recipe means that you could certainly become an Alchemy Master one day."
"Really?" Su Qingxuan blinked, her voice tinged with skepticism.
"Really, when have I ever lied?" Ling Feng smiled sheepishly and added, "I've also never heard of the Purple Light Dust Pill before, so I should actually thank you for showing me such a precious recipe."
"What's the use of being precious if it's missing three herbs and several Fire Control Alchemy skills? No matter how much I try, I simply can't create a Solidifying Pill successfully."
Su Qingxuan pouted, "My dad said when he left a few months ago that if I could complete this recipe before he returned, he would teach me a high-level Fire Control Skill, but it's been over three months now, and I just can't solve this puzzle. I can't ask President Hong for help either; otherwise, my dad would easily find out I cheated by just asking a few questions."
As she spoke, Su Qingxuan even stuck out her tongue, looking like a little girl who had made a mistake.
Seeing Su Qingxuan's charming and adorable appearance, Ling Feng smiled lightly. "Actually, I don't have any clue at the moment, but I can study it with you, Master Su."
"I'm glad you're willing to help me," Su Qingxuan said with a giggly smile.
"Hmm, I'll give it a try." Ling Feng took a brush from the inkstone desk and then began to study the medicinal effects and interactions of the various ingredients in the elixir recipe. After a bit of thought, he boldly penned down three ingredients.
"Master Su, come take a look."
"Ah? So fast?" Su Qingxuan was startled by Ling Feng's speed, leaned in beside him, and upon close inspection, exclaimed, "Moonlight Bamboo, Moling Flower, Purple Dew!"
Su Qingxuan's eyes bulged with surprise. "But Ling Feng, I've tried these ingredients before."
"That's true, you have tried them, but it might be a problem with the proportions or the age," he said with a light smile while pointing at Su Qingxuan's second elixir-refining record. "You used three-hundred-year-old Moonlight Bamboo. Actually, this kind of material is not better with age; sixty years is optimal. When it's older, it loses the true Moon Spirit Essence, so it can't neutralize the aggressively Yang attributes of the other ingredients in the recipe."
"There's such a thing?" Su Qingxuan blinked her eyes in surprise, as she had never come across such information in any literature or books.
"Probably." Ling Feng smiled lightly again. "Also, the Moling Flower and Purple Dew you used were a bit too much. Alchemy Dao seeks a balance of Yin and Yang, a complement of the Five Elements. If you always keep this principle in mind, plus a lot of experimentation and attempts, I believe you can elevate from completing the elixir recipe to perfecting it."
"After all, even an Ancient Pill Recipe might not necessarily be the best recipe, right?"
"Oh..." Su Qingxuan was dumbfounded, realizing that she had only been completing the recipe, while Ling Feng had already reached the level of perfecting it!
No wonder he was the Chief Honored Elder, and she was just a Fourth-rank Alchemist. That was the difference!
Then, Ling Feng continued to write rapidly, completing the entire recipe before saying, "It should be about right now. I think it should be successful. Would you like to give it a try, Master Su?"
Su Qingxuan's eyes were fixed on Ling Feng, observing how he wrote without hesitation, clearly very confident in his own elixir recipe, and yet he said "probably could succeed." This guy, he really can play it cool!
"Ehm..." Ling Feng touched his nose, feeling uneasy under Su Qingxuan's intense gaze, and said with an awkward smile, "Is something wrong?"
Su Qingxuan gave Ling Feng a sideways glance, bit her lip gently, picked up the scroll from the table, read it carefully, and couldn't help but praise repeatedly, "So that's how it is! The process of Fire Control can actually vary like this. No wonder I couldn't figure it out!"
Seeing Su Qingxuan's excited demeanor, Ling Feng couldn't help but smile lightly again. It seemed that Su Qingxuan indeed had quite a talent for the ways of Alchemy Dao, grasping the key points at a glance.
After a long while, Su Qingxuan finally calmed down a bit, carefully put away the scroll, and said with pursed lips, "Alright, I'll give it a try. Ling Feng, keep an eye on me later. If there's a problem, you must remind me."
"Of course."
Ling Feng nodded, and at this moment, it felt as if the roles of mentor and student between them had been reversed.
Interesting, truly interesting!
