Compared to the forces on the ground, their air defense was beyond weak.
Forget about radar-guided anti-air missiles, they didn’t even have a single "Last Dignity" dense array.
The monsters easily breached their defenses.
The good news was that most of the personnel had already been evacuated.
Now, if they could just get a bit more time, they would be able to board the sail ship and leave this damned island.
"Jonathan, how are things on your end? Are the ships ready?"
Lune asked his busy old partner.
"No problem, I just checked, almost everyone has been evacuated, and the ships are in position. Squads five and six won’t last much longer, Lune, you go first, leave the rest to me,"
Jonathan said, pointing at the sail ship that had already weighed anchor at the dock.
The area previously destroyed by the monster had been cleared.
Lune glanced toward the harbor, about to say something, when his eyes suddenly widened in shock.
Jonathan also turned his head to check and was equally frozen the next second.
They saw several towering figures rising from the water, each as tall as a ten-story building.
All of them were the same type of sea worms they had faced before!
The surrounding warriors all had ashen faces upon seeing this scene.
Their last escape route via the sea was already their only option, and now even this path had been blocked by the monsters.
Facing the all-encompassing swarm of insects, they felt nothing but despair.
"Fire! Fire! Use the rocket launchers! Blow them to hell!"
Lune’s eyes reddened as he roared at the group of monsters.
Then, instead of the expected missiles, they were greeted with the attack of the sea worms.
Nearly a hundred tentacles shot from the seaside, and his comrades let out screams one after another.
One tentacle even grazed past Lune’s cheek, luckily he managed to dodge in time, or it would have pierced his forehead.
Jonathan promptly pulled him back behind the armored vehicle.
Lune shook his head and didn’t fall into confusion.
He was the director of the Hurricane Bureau, with a strong mental fortitude, and he wouldn’t easily give up even at such a critical moment of life and death.
Picking up the communication device at hand, he continued to issue combat commands to the soldiers around him, all the while desperately thinking of a way out.
But even he had no idea what to do now.
The difference in strength between the two sides was too great to be bridged by any so-called strategy.
"Dammit!"
Lune punched the armored vehicle hard, not caring about the blood seeping from his hand.
At his side, a figure crouched and ran over—it was Kando.
"Commander, our retreat has been cut off. We’d better leave here immediately, go underground!"
"Underground!?"
"Yes, Commander. The building where I was hiding earlier actually has an entrance to an underground air-raid shelter, but the door was damaged, and I couldn’t get in, so I had to stay outside."
Lune’s eyes lit up at the news; if such a place really existed, then there was still hope for them to survive.
"Good! We’ll go there, and when we get there, we’ll use explosives to blow open that door! Kando, lead the way! Jonathan, contact the others, follow me!"
He made an immediate decision without hesitation.
The group quickly sprang into action; they needed to hide before the main force of the insects arrived.
Next, the process was relatively smooth. Although they encountered several blockades by insects along the way, they managed to repel them with their weapons.
"This is the place! Everyone, get inside!"
Kando shouted and was about to run over, but suddenly he stopped in his tracks.
In front of him, the insignificant entrance suddenly began to shake.
The next second, a pair of huge scythe-like claws emerged from the ground, followed by a head, body, and limbs.
In just a moment, a gargantuan beetle, over fifty meters tall, appeared before them.
The insect was so large that they were forced to retreat a considerable distance to avoid being crushed by the debris of stones stirred up by its appearance.
"This, this..."
The group was now at a loss for words.
The feeling of being tormented between heaven and hell, even the most elite warriors were about to collapse.
"What do we do now... Lune..."
Jonathan swallowed hard, turning his stiff neck to look over at his longtime partner.
Lune also looked with a deadpan face at the beetle letting out a earth-shaking roar, the bitterness in his heart almost spilling out.
"I’m sorry, Jonathan... I shouldn’t have brought you here... Maybe, we really should have listened to Comlan..."
As he spoke these words, his heart felt like it was being torn apart.
"Everyone, it’s been an honor fighting alongside you, we..."
However, just as he was about to say something to the other warriors, a sudden change occurred on the field.
A flash of light, like a meteor slashing the long sky, hit the head of the beetle, which was roaring up to the heavens, at a speed that left no time for anyone to react.
The next second, a huge collision sound came, and a shockwave expanded rapidly from the center of the beetle outward.
Lune and the others, who were closer, were blasted away, feeling a heart-wrenching pain inside.
"What happened..."
Lune stood up, holding his head, and turned his gaze to where the large monster had been.
As the smoke cleared, the once-indomitable giant beetle had lost its upper body and was lying silently on the ground, lifeless.
In front of it stood a figure, tall and proud, shrouded in black shadows, making it difficult to discern their appearance.
"Is that, a person...?"
Lune’s pupils shrank.
"Hiss, hiss, hiss!"
Before he could express his shock, a series of calls suddenly came from above, a swarm of flying insects!
"Watch out!!"
Jonathan, by his side, yelled, taking the lead in picking up his gun and pulling the trigger at the insects.
But his actions stopped halfway.
The figure in the distance suddenly moved; they raised their hands slowly and ascended into the midair in a single breath.
Immediately after, hundreds of purple dots appeared around them.
These silently hovering dots, flickering, looked like over a hundred eyes.
The next moment, as the person waved their hand, the lights by their side turned into vast beams of light and shot toward the bodies of the swarm with incredible precision.
"Screech!"
A series of painful screams rose, and the insect swarm that had been menacingly flying over was instantly shattered by the light beams, tumbling from the sky.
The sky cleared at once.
Those purple light beams, each one hitting the insects’ vital points.
This level of precise control power, if seen by other Awakeners of the Star Alliance, would surely make them gasp in awe at the strength of the Star Lord.
The person who killed the giant beetle with a single blow and used Multiple Violent Spirit Technique to clear the flying insects was naturally Zhang Xiaoman.
After clearing away the monsters besieging the shield, Zhang Xiaoman reaped over a hundred points.
He immediately underwent an upgrade on the spot, then tracked the traces of those insects, intending to find their nest and wipe out these creatures in one fell swoop.
Whether for safety reasons or from an ecological standpoint, these insects had to be eliminated.
It’s worth mentioning that, with over a hundred points spent, his Dawn satisfied the requirements of five Upgrade Points and successfully advanced to Purple Second Rank.
Now, the Dawn had transformed from a Space Guard Ship into a Space Destroyer, significantly increasing in size.
However, Zhang Xiaoman didn’t have the time to check its specific information, as his attention was entirely focused on the insects.
To his delight, the upgraded destroyer now had a new scanning and Tracking function.
Using the corpse of an insect for a scan, the ship’s brain quickly tracked down the location of the insects.
The port base of America’s Seventh Fleet!
Zhang Xiaoman immediately led the newly upgraded Dawn to the battlefield.
