"When that person first came to the door, they did not reveal their identity or background. Even if it’s reported to the Government Office, they have no way to investigate. The hardest part of this issue is not finding this person, but the medicine shop being unable to prove its innocence."
After listening to Dai Yuxi’s explanation, Lin Chen also understood.
The Dai Family seems to be on a decline.
Wherever there are people, there are connections and networks. This is due to human nature and cannot be changed.
The Dai Family reported to the officials, but the Government Office merely drove away the troublemaker. It was simply because the Dai Family had no connections within the Government Office, and those officials were unwilling to spend too much effort on this matter, as it was not a fight or a murder.
The person behind this troublemaker presumably anticipated that the Dai Family would report to officials, but as long as the troublemaker kept insisting firmly, it was enough. The other side might have even bribed the officials in the Government Office.
"Miss Dai, I shall take my leave now."
Seeing Lin Chen contemplating for a moment then immediately bidding farewell, a trace of disappointment flashed in Dai Yuxi’s eyes.
Although she didn’t think that this Young Master Lin could solve the crisis facing the Dai Family, since he asked, it still gave her a sliver of hope.
"Alright."
Dai Yuxi watched Lin Chen leave, then sat on the chair inside the counter, starting to think of a way to resolve the current predicament.
After leaving the Dai Family medicine shop, Lin Chen went straight to the Qingyun Martial Arts Academy.
In front of the Qingyun Martial Arts Academy, Lin Chen waited for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, and soon the figure of Kong Qing hurried out.
"Senior Brother Lin, why are you waiting at the door?"
Kong Qing had been notified by the gatekeeper of the academy that someone was there to meet him, and from the gatekeeper’s description of the visitor, he was certain it was Senior Brother Lin, so he came immediately.
In his view, Senior Brother Lin only needed to mention his name, and the gatekeeper would let him through without hesitation.
The name of Senior Brother Lin might not be known to gatekeepers elsewhere, but the gatekeepers of the Martial Arts Academy definitely knew of it.
"Waiting here is the same."
Lin Chen did not reveal his name because he didn’t want to attract too much attention. If he did, the entire Qingyun Martial Arts Academy would know, and he would be surrounded by numerous academy disciples.
"Has Senior Brother Lin already been to the Military Affairs Department?"
"Yes, I’ve met Lord Kong."
Hearing that Lin Chen had met Lord Kong, Kong Qing’s eyes revealed a hint of envy. He had yet to meet Lord Kong, and just seeing him from afar didn’t count.
"Does Senior Brother Lin have any plans for tonight?"
"I don’t think so."
"Then I’ll arrange a welcome banquet for Senior Brother Lin tonight, to welcome and dust off the journey for Senior Brother Lin, and invite Senior Brother Zhang Ming and a few other fellow senior and junior brothers. What do you think, Senior Brother Lin?"
"As the guest follows the host, Junior Brother Kong can arrange it as you see fit."
Lin Chen did not decline, but he asked, "Junior Brother Kong, do you know anyone in the Capital’s Government Office?"
"Uh..."
Kong Qing’s expression turned peculiar as he explained under Lin Chen’s puzzled gaze, "Senior Brother Lin, my father is the Prefect of Jingzhao."
Lin Chen: ...
Only now did he realize that these junior brothers of Kong Qing were not only genius disciples of the Martial Arts Academy but also the offspring of the powerful and influential.
"Does Senior Brother Lin have something on your mind?"
"It’s not my issue, but a family of an old acquaintance has encountered some problems."
Lin Chen briefly recounted the situation at the Dai Family’s medicine shop, and Kong Qing understood what Senior Brother Lin meant, "Senior Brother Lin wants the Government Office to clear the Dai Family’s medicine shop’s name."
"Whether the Dai Family is innocent needs to be investigated by the Government Office. I just hope the Government Office can thoroughly investigate this matter."
Being the son of an official, how could Kong Qing not detect the implication in Lin Chen’s words? If the Government Office investigates, and the Dai Family is indeed innocent, then they can catch the person behind it and announce it to the townspeople, clearing the Dai Family’s name.
If the Dai Family is not innocent, then this matter shouldn’t be made too public.
In any case, they need to investigate it thoroughly first.
The Dai Family couldn’t do it because such matters are not considered significant by the Government Office, and those officials wouldn’t put in much effort. To put it bluntly, it still comes down to the Dai Family’s lack of influence.
If someone truly plotted against the Dai Family, the Government Office’s thorough investigation would surely expose the real culprits.
To say nothing of it, those three troublemakers would have to confess everything if pressed earnestly.
"Rest assured, Senior Brother Lin, I will take care of this matter for you. Let me first take Senior Brother Lin to a place."
Kong Qing took Lin Chen to a rather secluded manor and arranged a separate courtyard for him before leaving. He needed to go to the Government Office and also contact those senior and junior brothers.
For Senior Brother Lin’s welcome banquet, those brothers definitely wouldn’t want to miss it, but knowing Senior Brother Lin’s disposition, the number of people shouldn’t be too many.
In the Capital City, as the capital of the Liang Kingdom, the Prefect of Jingzhao is a Third Grade Martial Artist, and the Chief Constables below him are all Middle Grade Martial Artists.
"Investigating the matter of the Dai Family’s medicine shop?"
Liu Jun looked at the paper in his hand, which recorded the situation of the Dai Family’s medicine shop.
A medicine shop rumored to be selling inferior pills as superior ones—would this little issue make Lord Governor personally intervene?
Does the Dai Family have some influential background?
After a moment, Liu Jun stood up and called out towards the outside of the room, "Assemble the constables."
Half a two-hour later, Liu Jun had the results of his subordinates’ investigation in hand: the Dai Family’s medicine shop was falsely accused, and the instigator behind it was the Cai Family.
When the Government Office got serious, those troublemakers confessed everything clearly.
The Cai Family is a family that only moved into the Capital City a few years ago. Currently, the Cai Family’s patriarch is in the Sixth Grade Realm, comparable in strength to Liu Jun as a Chief Constable, and the Cai Family ancestors also ran a medicine shop...
After Dai Jingfeng of the Dai Family passed away, none of his sons broke through to the Middle Grade, and the family began to decline. The Cai Family then set their sights on the Dai Family’s medicine shop.
