Lu Chengyu muttered to himself, a vicious grin spreading uncontrollably across his face.
’To think he dared make me his stable boy.’
He would stomp this ignorant brat into the mud, making sure he could never get back on his feet.
"Go."
Lu Chengyu let out a slow breath. He ordered his Captains to guard the other two exits, then led his trusted Vice Generals along the pre-planned route.
After having mastered their defensive layout in advance, the entire mountain ridge was eerily quiet. Not a single Demon noticed that men from the Demon-slaying Bureau had already stepped deep into the Demon Mountain.
...
「Inside the cave residence on Seven Stars Mountain.」
Eight Demon Generals sat in two rows, their expressions complex.
And in the seat of honor sat a young man in hemp clothing, leaning back brazenly against the chair.
A smile covered his face as he gently caressed the armrest. "Tsk, how nostalgic. I used to sit in a seat just like this, leading all of you into battle. Ling Liu, you were just a Little Demon Soldier back then."
"..."
The beautiful young woman lowered her gaze. After a long pause, she finally spoke, her voice hoarse. "Fei Huang, if you still have any sentiment for the old days, what will it take for you to leave us alone?"
"Hey! Don’t talk nonsense."
Demon General Fei Huang held up a hand, his smile widening. "I haven’t done anything to you. I just want to see how you’re going to lead over seventy thousand demon people into the deep mountains to escape, now that the Immortal Families plan to purge all demons."
"If you weren’t here making trouble, we would have left long ago!" an old man with a white beard and hair retorted angrily.
If the eight of them joined forces, while they might not be able to kill Fei Huang, forcing him to retreat would be no problem at all.
But he knew Seven Stars Mountain like the back of his hand and had already discovered the hiding places of the demon people. If they were to attack, more than half of the seventy thousand demon people would be dead or injured in an instant.
The Demon Generals planned to flee far away with the demon people.
But Fei Huang followed them relentlessly, like a plague they could not shake.
"Still talking about the demon people. You just can’t let go of the past," Demon General Ling Liu said, glancing sideways at him, her eyes welling up.
When they were just Little Demons, Fei Huang was already a powerful Demon General. He was like a brother and a father to them, admired by all. But now... he had become this.
"Of course I can’t forget."
Fei Huang laughed long and hard, his voice filled with rage. "I risked my life and limb for that woman, traveling to a major county to assassinate an Immortal Descendant! I just happened to kill a few common mortals, and for that, she banished me. Why the hell should I forget?!"
"No. It wasn’t an accident."
Demon General Ling Liu slowly rose to her feet. "You did it after killing the Immortal Descendant," she corrected. "You attacked the residential areas as you were leaving, purely to vent your rage."
"And it wasn’t ’a few lives.’ It was more than seventeen thousand people."
She suddenly let out a low growl. "That was the homeland of many of our brothers and sisters on this mountain, from before they were branded as Demon Evils!"
Just because you were injured, just because you wanted to live up to your name ’Fei Huang’ and become even more infamous, you committed such a massacre.
Such savagery... it was enough to make one’s blood run cold.
"Oh."
Faced with the young woman’s surging fury, Demon General Fei Huang fell silent for a moment. Then he suddenly licked the corner of his mouth and spread his hands nonchalantly. "And?"
He unhurriedly got to his feet, walked over to Ling Liu, and suddenly grabbed a handful of her hair. He yanked her face, her eyes still welling with tears, right up to his own, their gazes locked and only inches apart.
"You’re all so benevolent, aren’t you? Rescuing all the friends and families of these Little Demons from the clutches of the Immortal Descendants, bringing them back to the mountains, and turning them into demon people."
Demon General Fei Huang smirked. "When the Demon Slaying Sabers come for their heads, I hope they’ll still be grateful to you."
He violently shoved Ling Liu away, his voice dripping with scorn. "And I hope when that bitch Bi Hai hears you’re all dead, she doesn’t for a moment recall that she once had a fearsome general like me. I hope she never, ever thinks she made a mistake."
"The Demon Monarch was not wrong." Someone to the side suddenly stood up.
"..."
Fei Huang faltered. He slowly turned to look, his gaze turning cold. "Is that so?"
’He actually had other things to do.’
’The situation within the Nine Mansions was currently too tense.’
’To survive, he needed a reliable source of intelligence to evade the Demon-slaying Bureau’s hunts.’
’To trade for this intelligence, while Fei Huang didn’t dare meet with anyone from the Demon-slaying Bureau directly, he could make an offering to prove his allegiance. He didn’t mind helping that Vice General solve a little problem in exchange for them taking only the Demon corpses and leaving behind the resources that were useless to Cultivators.’
’As for what "little problem"... for instance, heavily wounding some so-called Mountain Master who didn’t live up to his reputation?’
However, before leaving, he suddenly decided to have a little fun.
Demon General Fei Huang bared his teeth in a grin. "How about this? If you all admit that bitch was wrong, I’ll leave right now and stop targeting those demon people. What do you say? Care to consider it?"
"You..." Ling Liu’s face flushed crimson.
The other Demon Generals also looked furious, glaring at the man with bitter resentment.
Just then, a voice of agreement echoed inside the cave residence.
"She was indeed wrong. She shouldn’t have exiled you from the mountain."
The eight Demon Generals exchanged bewildered glances. That voice hadn’t come from any of them.
They whipped their heads around to look, and their pupils contracted in shock. "Duan Yue?!"
At the entrance to the cave residence, standing beside the old man they had hosted just a few days prior, was a handsome youth dressed in a Flowing Cloud Sword Robe.
Those words had clearly come from the young man.
But what truly horrified everyone was that Demon General Duan Yue, the man they had hosted so hospitably, had brazenly brought a Mountain Master Disciple of the Yu Family into Seven Stars Mountain!
"You sure know what to say."
Fei Huang was also puzzled as to why these two, whose statuses were so vastly different, were standing together.
’But then again, it made sense.’
’If he could betray this herd of vile beasts, then of course other Demon Generals could too.’
