"GASP!"
Yu Duchuan was like a drowning man.
Heaving for breath, he reluctantly took out the Mountain God’s Token.
He had only halfway extended his hand when he suddenly clenched the Small Seal and lunged forward.
He threw his arms tightly around the older man’s legs, his body trembling. "Uncle Qiheng, if you just give me one more chance, you’ll be the father who gave me a new life!"
"From now on, I will follow your every command!"
"Dad!"
Yu Qiheng watched Yu Duchuan shout at the top of his lungs, his eyes wide.
Yu Qiheng raised an eyebrow, then suddenly slapped him hard across the face. "Don’t be ridiculous."
The young man stared, clutching his face in bewildered shock.
He watched as Uncle Qiheng casually picked up the fallen Mountain God’s Token and placed it gently on the table. "Fortunately, it was just a group of lowly Vice Generals who died, not anyone from the main Qi Family. It won’t be too troublesome for me to handle."
"You can stay in the City Lord’s Mansion for now. As for the future... we’ll see."
"A Demon Cleansing on the Demon Mountain is unnecessary. Just take your peers and keep a close watch. The demon scourge is already severe; we can’t afford any more trouble."
He stood and started walking out of the main hall. "I’ll have to return to Yongzhou eventually. Someone needs to watch over the Mountain God Mirror for me here. As for who that person will be..."
Yu Qiheng left the sentence hanging as he strode out of the hall, leaving the still-shaken young man to collapse onto the floor, lost in thought.
"Phew."
He strolled through the mountains and soon found Yu Sheng sitting by a stream, slapping the water’s surface with a wooden stick.
’An incompetent godson isn’t enough.’
Yu Qiheng’s true target today was this orphan who had suddenly risen to fame.
"You’re a grown woman now. You should be more mindful of your image."
He stood by the stream and glanced at the girl beside him, speaking in a gentle tone. "Back then, I saw you as a young girl who had been cast out, too naive and immature. I wanted to temper you a bit. I never imagined I’d forge a true treasure of a sword."
"Thank you."
Yu Sheng looked up, forcing a sweet smile.
Yu Qiheng shook his head. "I know you want more, but your brother Duchuan has put in hard work over the years, even if he has little to show for it. Besides, his branch of the family is powerful, while you are all alone. If you truly make an enemy of him, you’ll have no one to back you and find yourself in a world of trouble."
He gave a helpless smile. "When you young ones fight, your methods are so ruthless they sometimes startle even me. You’re a member of the Yu Family, at least, but the same can’t be said for your disciples. I can’t interfere too much, so for now, the best I can do is help you lie low."
"However, your Aunt Xin has been very fond of you from the beginning."
"She plans to come to Shihu City to see you herself and find a good future for that disciple of yours. Just wait a few more days."
Yu Qiheng showed no intention of continuing the idle chat.
He gave her an encouraging look, then activated his Wind-Riding Mountain Patrol technique and vanished.
’Raising children isn’t all that different from raising dogs.’
’Dangle a piece of meat, incite conflict between them, and they’ll naturally learn to fawn and curry favor, working even harder for you.’
"Hmph!"
Yu Sheng sat there, her cheeks puffed out in anger.
She hadn’t heard any genuine concern, only a thinly veiled threat.
’Why does it feel like that old bastard has no intention of letting me go?’
At this thought, she used an Essence Blood voice transmission to shout:
"Lin Shu, someone’s trying to steal your little chick!"
「Moon-Devouring Demon Mountain.」
Beside a few warm bonfires.
Lin Shu was rubbing the ring on his finger when he suddenly looked up, gazing past the mountain’s edge.
"Is something wrong?" the Qingming Demon General asked curiously.
"It’s nothing."
He retracted his gaze, the flickering firelight casting shadows across his handsome face.
’Back when I intended to return Yu Sheng to the Yu Family, they made all sorts of excuses and refused to take her.’
’Now that I’ve finally raised her, they’re rushing over to pluck the fruit.’
Lin Shu wasn’t particularly concerned.
Because if all went according to plan, Yu Qiheng would soon have more pressing matters to worry about.
The Zhao Family was a Half-Life Immortal Family on par with the Yu Family.
For them to dare try and seize the Mountain God Mirror, they must have come fully prepared.
And in a situation like this, two great Demon Monarchs were also fishing in troubled waters.
No matter how profound Yu Qiheng’s Magical Power was, all of this would be more than he could handle.
"How much longer do we have to wait?" Lin Shu asked, glancing at the beautiful woman.
Just yesterday, every Demon General except for him and Elder Xu had received a Jade Order announcing the Cloud Dragon Demon Monarch’s return.
The Qingming Demon General had already sent a message explaining Elder Xu’s situation.
The two of them had also gathered a number of corpses of Immortal Descendants and their disciples, intending to use them as payment for the "medical fees."
Now, all they had to do was wait for the Cloud Dragon Demon Monarch’s summons.
Then, the beautiful woman could take Elder Xu to have his injuries treated. Once he was healed, they could decide whether to stay or leave.
"It should be soon."
The Qingming Demon General was also a bit puzzled. Logically, even if the Cloud Dragon Demon Monarch had just returned and had many matters to attend to, simply sending someone to summon them wouldn’t take much effort.
"Thank you, Qingming Demon General. Once this old man’s injuries are healed, I will certainly find a way to repay you for these resources."
Elder Xu staggered to his feet and cupped his fists toward the beautiful woman.
He only thanked Qingming.
Because the old man was now under the banner of Moon-Devouring.
He felt no need for verbal thanks toward his own general; offering his life and awaiting orders was all that was required.
"..."
The Qingming Demon General was about to curse this stubborn old mule, but before the words could leave her lips, she froze and looked up.
It wasn’t just her; all the surrounding Little Demons were staring in unison at the dark sky behind Elder Xu.
Two long rainbows pierced the night. The first was white, the second crimson, and behind them trailed seventy or eighty more streaks of light, like a cascade of shooting stars across the sky.
A furious wind swept over them before the figures even arrived.
Under the crushing wave of Demon Power that blotted out the sky, both Moon-Devouring Mountain and Qingming Mountain began to tremble.
"He actually came himself?"
The Qingming Demon General’s pupils constricted. She was just about to rise and lead the others in welcome.
