Chen Zhuo’s fingers tightened slightly, crinkling the blueprint.
’What if I abandoned the grid entirely?’
’Just like this line of equations on the blueprint...’
’What if I could find a fundamental mathematical language to flawlessly translate the entire three-dimensional geometry of the bullet train’s head car into a few sets of pure algebraic polynomials?’
’Forget calculating the wind.’
’Forget calculating the grid.’
’I could directly map the fluid shapes from physics to algebraic rings in mathematics.’
’I could reduce the endless, brute-force computation down to simply solving a few lines of algebraic equations!’
Algebraic geometry.
Using polynomials to define and study geometric spaces within the realm of pure mathematics.
Chen Zhuo’s eyes grew brighter and brighter. The calm in their depths was utterly shattered, replaced by the fervor of someone witnessing the gates to a new world being pushed open.
The grid is static.
Algebra is dynamic.
If he could just convert the manifold into an algebraic variety...
...the server wouldn’t need to count grains of sand anymore. It would only need to solve equations.
Chen Zhuo shot to his feet.
His chair slid backward, letting out a piercing scrape against the floor.
Wang Dayong jumped, nearly dropping the file he had just picked up.
"What’s wrong? What’s with you?"
Chen Zhuo carefully smoothed out the blueprint and placed it on Wang Dayong’s desk.
"Dayong, thank you for the blueprint."
Chen Zhuo’s voice sounded steady, but he spoke faster than usual.
He turned, walked to his own desk, pulled open a drawer, and took out a notebook.
He didn’t sit down.
He simply stood before the desk and uncapped his pen.
He flipped to the first page, the tip of his pen landing heavily on the clean white paper.
He didn’t write a single symbol related to the Navier-Stokes equations.
He didn’t draw a single grid.
He wrote down the first defining formula for an algebraic group.
Next came a fundamental derivation, an attempt to map a three-dimensional topological structure onto a complex manifold.
The pen flew across the paper.
Wang Dayong watched Chen Zhuo.
He had never seen Chen Zhuo in such a state. Even when studying for finals, Chen Zhuo would always have a glass of water, calmly flipping through his books at an unhurried pace.
But now, Chen Zhuo was like a madman who had been fumbling in the dark for ages and had finally grasped the end of a fuse.
Wang Dayong swallowed. He had the good sense not to disturb him and picked up his file again, trying to be as quiet as possible as he went back to work on the piece of aluminum alloy.
The dorm room light cast a pale glow.
Chen Zhuo wrote quickly.
Line after line of unfamiliar algebraic symbols, tensor after tensor attempting to unify the boundaries of algebra and geometry.
His mind was racing, forcibly kneading and stitching together Li Jianming’s pure-math theories, Wang Dayong’s engineering blueprints, and the topological concepts he had been studying in the library for the past few days.
He filled ten whole pages.
The speed of his pen gradually slowed.
Finally, Chen Zhuo stopped writing.
He shook his slightly sore wrist and looked down at the derivations that filled the notebook.
It was rough.
Extremely rough.
The isomorphic transformation between the algebraic ideal and the geometric manifold had huge logical gaps, and the boundary condition constraints were full of holes.
It was still light-years away from being a complete mathematical theorem that could be formally presented and proven.
But it was enough.
The direction was right.
He had managed to force a crack open in that heavy door. As long as he followed that crack, the high wall named "Computational Power" would crumble on its own.
Chen Zhuo closed the notebook and stuffed it into his backpack.
Chen Zhuo turned and walked toward the dorm room door.
"Where are you going?" Wang Dayong asked, looking at him. "The cafeteria is already closed."
"To the School of Physics."
Chen Zhuo pulled the door open and glanced back at Wang Dayong.
Under the light, the fervent look on his face had subsided, replaced by his usual gentle expression.
The corners of his mouth turned up slightly.
"I’m going to deliver a new tool to them."
With that, Chen Zhuo stepped out of the dorm room.
A draft blew through the hallway, carrying the chill of autumn, but he felt like his entire body was burning up.
