Shi Le glanced at him and said, "What does treating injuries have to do with propriety?"
Shi Le said, "Even though I’m not literate, I know that things like cows giving birth to calves, mothers giving birth to babies, and treating injuries are unrelated to gender or etiquette; they’re about life and death."
The wounds on Zhao Hanzhang were all inflicted by him; what would he be unable to see?
On the battlefield, all propriety and morality are nonsense!
Zhao Hanzhang agreed wholeheartedly with Shi Le’s words and nodded, "That’s right."
Fu Tinghan ignored them, cleaned the wound a bit, and seeing that the bleeding was accelerating, couldn’t help but say, "It requires suturing, should I do it?"
Zhao Hanzhang said, "You do it."
Suturing skill has been around since ancient times, but very few doctors would use it. In the Zhao Family Army, all doctors could use it, even the medics learned a bit of suturing skill.
Though it might not be elaborate, it’s still decent.
Zhao Hanzhang mandated that every doctor in the army had a teaching task every quarter, teaching several medics various emergency medical techniques. They could earn corresponding bonuses for it.
In the Zhao Family Army, only two things were never delayed: the pensions for fallen and severely injured soldiers, and the bonuses for military doctors.
Zhao Hanzhang would rather delay soldiers’ salaries than withhold bonuses.
Thus, even newly recruited, illiterate, and rustic villagers in the army had to learn to use forceps to pinch needles and suture.
Fu Tinghan had always been with the army, so naturally, he also learned some. Though the needle and thread in hand now didn’t meet the standards, on the battlefield, they even used grass rolled and soaked, so how could real thread matter?
So after Fu Tinghan carefully cleaned his hands, he picked up the needle and thread, threading it under the sharp light of the fire, then lowered his gaze and inserted a needle into her flesh.
Shi Le, who had been watching, felt his brow twitch, while the young A Wei couldn’t help but turn his head to look, stunned as well.
However, Shi Hongtu and the others were unperturbed. Who hadn’t had a few stitches on them?
This was the most common method used by the Zhao Family Army to stop bleeding and promote wound healing.
Honestly, this method was quite effective. During Fu Tinghan’s suturing, blood was still trickling, but once he finished, the bleeding significantly reduced. After applying medicine and bandaging, the blood nearly stopped.
Zhao Hanzhang tried to relax her body, as other parts of her body also hurt, coupled with the pain from the wound itself, she barely registered the pricks from the suture needle.
The changes to the wound were crystal clear to Shi Le. He immediately told Shi Hongtu, who wanted to crudely bandage the wound directly, "I want mine sutured too."
Shi Hongtu said, "I can’t do it."
Shi Le then looked at Fu Tinghan.
Fu Tinghan glanced at Zhao Hanzhang, and after bandaging her wound, he went to look at Shi Le’s wound.
Seeing that Fu Tinghan was about to do it himself, Shi Hongtu blushed and quickly grabbed the work from his hands, "Let me do it, sir."
Fu Tinghan said, "No need, I’ll do it."
Although Shi Hongtu and others also learned from him along with the army, their techniques were extremely rough, and Shi Le’s wound was much worse than Zhao Hanzhang’s.
It seemed Zhao Hanzhang didn’t spare a thought for Shi Le’s survival when she stabbed him.
Fu Tinghan roughly sutured it but left a small opening, for future inspections.
Shi Le’s wound was deep, even with some intestines protruding. He cleaned it and pushed it back in, but without leaving an opening, he feared having to reopen it if anything else emerged later.
After dealing with the wound under Shi Le’s rib, Shi Le had already fallen asleep from exhaustion.
Fu Tinghan wiped his forehead and quietly told Zhao Hanzhang, "We need to find a doctor for him, or he might not survive."
Zhao Hanzhang frowned and turned her gaze towards the slightly apprehensive A Wei beside her.
A Wei stared back blankly.
Zhao Hanzhang gave him a polite smile and asked, "A Wei, do you know if there’s a doctor among the refugees?"
"A doctor?" A Wei said, "Even if there’s a doctor, there’s no medicine now. What’s the use of a doctor without medicine?"
Zhao Hanzhang smiled softly, "Do you know any doctors?"
A Wei said, "I don’t know any."
The others: "..."
Only Zhao Hanzhang remained unfazed. She smiled and said, "I’d like to ask A Wei to do me a favor."
A Wei said, "I can’t find a doctor..."
"Not to find a doctor, I’d like to find Elder Li," Zhao Hanzhang said. "That Elder Li from Guangzong County. You’re both from Anping Country, so you have some connection. I’d like to trouble you to pass on some words for me."
A Wei stared blankly, "I don’t know them; Wusui County and Guangzong County are far apart."
Zhao Hanzhang said, "... No problem, you don’t know them, but they know you. Just declare your name and that’s enough."
A Wei’s eyes brightened, "Am I so famous?"
Zhao Hanzhang nodded with a smile.
A Wei enthusiastically said, "What should I say, please tell me."
After pondering for a moment, Zhao Hanzhang said, "Just say that tonight I am filled with fervor and can’t sleep, so I wish to discuss by the fireside with the gentleman."
She added, "Say that I’ll be here waiting for him."
A Wei patted his chest and said, "Don’t worry, miss, I’ll fetch him right away."
As he turned, he suddenly remembered and asked, "May I ask where do you come from, miss?"
Zhao Hanzhang smiled gently and said, "Yu State, Zhao Hezhen."
Zhao Hanzhang is widely known, but few know the name Zhao Hezhen.
Many of the refugees here were from Anping Country. Being cautious, she did not want to reveal her identity lightly; however, since they were heading towards Yu State, they must be amenable to her. Could she extend a test probe?
This name and place of origin were her probe.
A Wei, seeing that’s the only information she gave, naively accepted and left without asking further.
Most of the refugees had gone to sleep, although their sleep was not deep, few were still moving about.
A Wei, strong and ruddy-faced, looked like a youth thriving even after fleeing hardship, so even walking alone from one end to the other, no one dared trouble him.
For fear of provoking a group by hitting one.
Elder Li was not asleep either, he had just pacified the arrogance of the Wu family, united with other surnames to consolidate their power.
The Wu family couldn’t do without them; similarly, Elder Li didn’t want to lose the significant power of the Wu family. In the turmoil of migration, dangers not only came from within refugee groups but also from outside.
Should they encounter bandits on the road, if their numbers weren’t strong enough, they might end up as abandoned lambs.
He was discussing tomorrow’s personnel arrangements with his sons and grandsons when a headstrong young man was brought before him.
The young man, coming alone and facing so many people without flinching, directly saluted, "Elder Li, I’m Gu Qilang from Wusui County, Gu Wei."
Hearing this, Elder Li immediately became more formal and said politely, "So it’s Gu Family’s seventh son, I’ve long admired your name. What brings you visiting so late at night?"
A Wei, hearing that he was indeed recognized, couldn’t help but smile broadly and told Elder Li, "Someone asked me to pass on a message to you."
