Chapter 2820 Scheme Behind the Faith! The three of them had deemed him a spirit contractor after watching him summon Genius.
Fear, admiration, and respect surfaced in their gazes when they mentioned spirit contractors.
This enabled Lin Yuan to understand the significance of the term. From the three individuals’ knowledge, Lin Yuan learned that spirit contractors were individuals who could use spiritual energy, soul energy, or bloodline power to take control of other lifeforms.
This concept of spirit contractors caused Lin Yuan to press his lips together.
If that was what spirit contractors were, didn’t that mean all the spirit qi professionals in the main world could be considered spirit contractors?
Why were spirit contractors so rare in the Sky Beyond the Clouds? Lin Yuan looked at Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, who were next to him, before instructing Genius to use Connected Tails on the four of them so he could share the memories he had obtained from the trio.
When Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter learned of their concept of spirit contractors, they did not disagree with the concept.
Spring was the first to speak. “Young Master, the understanding of concepts is related to an entity’s level and circumstances. The three of them are at a very low level. Hence, it is almost impossible for them to come into contact with spirit contractors.
“However, there are a fair number of spirit contractors in the Sky Beyond the Clouds. A few species are born with the ability to use their bloodlines to take control of other lifeforms. There are many experts whose spiritual energy and souls mutate during the process of increasing their strength. They thus gain the ability to form contracts with other lifeforms using their spiritual energy and souls.
“Faith power can also be used to control other lifeforms. However, using faith power to control other lifeforms cannot be considered a form of spirit contraction.”
Lin Yuan nodded when he heard what Spring said. He agreed with Spring.
It was true that these three were weak. With such inferior power, they knew barely anything about this wide world.
Nonetheless, Lin Yuan was now extremely interested in spirit contractors.
Autumn rarely had the opportunity to demonstrate his value to Lin Yuan.
Since Lin Yuan did not know about spirit contractors, he could help fill in the gaps!
“Young Master, among the two captives that you later took in, the Alluring Fox is considered a spirit contractor! However, in a place like the Sky Beyond the Clouds, everyone would rather invest resources in themselves as opposed to targets they had spiritually contracted.
“Spirit contraction only works on recently born or weak lifeforms. Hence, it is usually only members of large factions who spiritually contract lifeforms. That Alluring Fox has only spiritually contracted newborns that were born with innate power or potential.”
After Autumn’s explanation, Lin Yuan now had an accurate understanding of spirit contractors.
In the main world, humans had relatively weak bodies, and it was necessary for them to use feys for combat.
However, the Sky Beyond the Clouds’ experts naturally possessed outstanding combat abilities. Despite being spirit contractors, there was no need for them to contract other lifeforms to help them in battle. Thus, the Sky Beyond the Clouds’ spirit contractors no longer relied on spiritually contracting other lifeforms.
If this was truly the case in the Sky Beyond the Clouds, any member of Sky City would be seen as the disciple of a major faction!
There were no native humans in the Sky Beyond the Clouds. But this did not matter because the various species in the Sky Beyond the Clouds usually preferred to take human form. This was something that Lin Yuan already knew.
Lin Yuan did not want to waste too much time here. In truth, Lin Yuan could have sent out Keira and used her and her army of insects to scout out the surroundings. It would not take long for Lin Yuan to gain a perfect understanding of the circumstances of this environment and draw up a precise map.
However, Lin Yuan did not do this. He knew that once he sent out Keira, the demon insects would sweep through the environment and leave devastation in their wake. That was just the kind of species they were—they lived and evolved by consuming.
Connected Tails allowed Lin Yuan to access the three individuals’ memories and knowledge. It also allowed him to use the language they understood to communicate with them.
“I want to know the location of the village from which you escaped. I need you to lead the way.”
From their memories, Lin Yuan had a general idea of the village’s location. He asked them this question because he wanted to give them a chance.
If the three of them seized this chance, Lin Yuan would take them in. Lin Yuan would undoubtedly need help if he wanted to begin developing in the Sky Beyond the Clouds.
If the three of them lied to him, he would not hesitate to send these three native lifeforms to the netherworld.
Based on their experiences, the three of them could not be considered good people in the traditional sense. Rather, they were lifeforms that abided by the law of the jungle.
When they came across weaker lifeforms, they would turn into sharks that had caught a whiff of blood. They would never give up until they had their target in their jaws! They had caught and killed countless weaker lifeforms.
When they heard what Lin Yuan said, they did not immediately tell Lin Yuan all that they knew. Rather, they followed their nature and began negotiating.
“Lord, the village where we used to live is far from here. If we take you there, will you give us any benefits? You are a spirit contractor master who has spiritually contracted beautiful lifeforms. It shouldn’t be difficult for you to give us a little something!”
The man with rough skin, who had just spoken, began chuckling. The rows of yellow teeth he revealed led Wen Yu, who was sitting next to Lin Yuan, to frown.
Blood Love glared coldly at the rough-skinned man. It was the gaze of someone looking at something that was about to die.
Lin Yuan looked away from the three of them and waved at Autumn. Autumn immediately led the three of them away.
Autumn knew that Lin Yuan was saying that he no longer wanted to see them. The three of them would no longer have anything to do with Lin Yuan. Hence, Autumn could decide what to do with them.
Autumn detested those who did not understand their circumstances. Through Connected Tails, Autumn had accessed their memories and had a general idea of the village’s location. They would need to release their spiritual aura to search for the village’s exact location.
This meant that the three of them would also need to expend some effort to locate the village.
They were unable to pinpoint the village’s location accurately, yet they responded as though they had all the answers and even asked Lin Yuan for benefits. Their behavior was unforgivable!
The three of them were clearly incapable of saving themselves. Yet, they were still attempting to negotiate.
Their greed tainted Lord Saint’s sacred years. Since that was the case, there was no need for them to continue living.
Autumn used his power to imprison the three of them. With Autumn’s power, they did not even have the opportunity to admit their mistake. All they could do was stare at him pleadingly.
However, Autumn did not feel a shred of mercy. A young girl they had caught had also looked at them with the same pleading eyes. But they had not given her the chance to continue living.
Once Autumn was done dealing with them, he immediately returned to Lin Yuan’s side.
Autumn did not report what he had done to Lin Yuan, as he felt that there was no need to do so.
The three of them had already wasted so much of Lin Yuan’s time. If they continued to take up Lin Yuan’s time after death, it would only amplify their crime!
Autumn knew of Lin Yuan’s goal. He began releasing his spiritual aura in the direction he had gleaned from their memories and started the search on Lin Yuan’s behalf.
Lin Yuan released Dark Blue and Gray from the Spirit Lock spatial zone so the two of them could hide Sky Sea’s movements.
Dark Blue, Gray, and Sky Sea’s partnership could be described as sheer perfection.
Frankly, it was not necessary for Lin Yuan to find a safe place to develop.
Sky Sea was Sky City’s core and could be located anywhere.
Lin Yuan wanted to establish a territory because the many feys that were part of Sky City and the Divine Kingdom white-clothed followers needed to obtain faith power. The best way was to establish a territory and obtain protection for lifeforms, thereby attaining faith power from these lifeforms. Hence, it became necessary for Lin Yuan to establish a territory.
Next to Lin Yuan, Summer said seriously, “Young Master, once you begin traveling to the village and learn of its exact location, I don’t think you should build your territory near that area. You should find an area of fertile land with an abundance of resources. The barrenness of this place exceeds my previous expectations.”
Lin Yuan nodded. Summer’s words were very reasonable to him. With Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter’s strength, Lin Yuan would be able to take any fertile land for himself. However, it was not easy to come across a piece of fertile land.
Once Winter settled the Four Seasons Mountain and helped it replenish its energy, he said seriously, “Young Master, don’t forget that you still have Fan Lou as a chess piece in the East Universe!
“You are now in the East Universe and can use him to accomplish many tasks. You’ll be able to find fertile land by asking Fan Lou about it. Once you find the village’s exact location, tell Fan Lou to come to us.
“It requires too much energy to use the jade I gave Fan Lou. You can give him a Thoughts Letter Paper. That way, you’ll be able to find out information from him!”
When Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter first joined Lin Yuan, they dared not make any suggestions to him for fear that doing so would displease him.
Lin Yuan had put a lot of effort into changing their mindsets to the current point where they saw themselves as his aides.
Rather than serving him, Lin Yuan preferred them to make up for his gaps like seniors would. This would help him to improve continuously and prevent his growth from becoming stunted. It also prevented his ego from being inflated by the constant adulation.
Lin Yuan had not forgotten about Fan Lou. Now that he had arrived at the Sky Beyond the Clouds, it was indeed time to contact him.
There was no need for Lin Yuan to be overly careful while he was developing in the East Universe. He would not go after those who did not cross him. But once someone bared their fangs at him, he would make sure to put an end to them!
If any faction laid a hand on Lin Yuan, he would be able to gain notoriety quickly by eliminating them. This would surely send shockwaves through the other factions.
The group already had a general location. As Spring continued to search the surroundings, she soon discovered the village.
The village was very small. It could be considered the smallest inhabited locale in the Sky Beyond the Clouds.
Yet, there were hundreds of millions of lifeforms living within it. The population of lifeforms living in the Sky Beyond the Clouds could not be conceptualized by Lin Yuan, who came from the main world.
Presently, every single lifeform in the village was lined up in an orderly formation as they worshipped the sculpture in the middle of the open-air courtyard.
A gray-haired elderly man covered in liver spots was leaning on a wooden cane and standing next to the sculpture. He surveyed all the worshippers to ensure that they were injecting a sufficient quantity of faith power into the sculpture.
The lifeforms that did not supply sufficient faith power to the sculpture would be picked out and told to stand off to the side. They would receive special punishment from the elderly man later.
Each punishment would be followed by a significant shrinking of the group.
Hence, all the lifeforms in the village were motivated to do their best to supply faith to the sculpture. This was so they could earn the elderly man’s protection.
The village was surrounded by danger, and ferocious beasts frequently emerged. The elderly man had already protected the village more than once.
The sculpture was of a lifeform hidden under wings. The lifeform probably had a humanoid form, but the wings prevented discernment of a precise answer.
In order to supply faith to a lifeform whose appearance they could not even see, they needed to use their imagination to persuade themselves to have faith in this lifeform.
Summer studied the situation in the village before sharing her findings with Lin Yuan.
Lin Yuan was rendered speechless with shock when he heard that. It turned out that faith was collected in this manner in the Sky Beyond the Clouds! How was this any different from rearing milk cows and draining them daily?
Just like spirit qi, faith power could also be categorized into different levels. This was the lowest-level method of collecting faith power.
It was unlikely that anyone would be willing to absorb faith power that was filled with so many impurities. Such faith power came with so much negative energy that it could even damage a divine kingdom.
Lin Yuan told them of his thoughts.
When Winter heard that, he began to explain, “Young Master, faith power isn’t just used to increase one’s power here. It also serves as currency. Experts who are able to use such methods to gather faith power will use such low-quality faith power as currency or give it out as rewards to their subordinates.”
Spring was silent for a moment before she said, “Based on what we learned from the three native lifeforms, this village has been here for at least a few thousand years. These lifeforms are slaves. Faith power that is forced out isn’t genuine.
“Young Master, if you want to collect faith power, you can consider saving the lifeforms in this village. Rescuing others is the best way to obtain faith power. It’s commonly employed in the Sky Beyond the Clouds.”
Lin Yuan felt that Spring’s suggestion was feasible. Then, A wild idea appeared in his head.
Could it be that all incidents of being rescued in the Sky Beyond the Clouds were linked to such a scheme?
